To Keep Her

When I woke up the next morning, her fist was grabbing onto my shirt in a death grip. 'I hope you didn't have any nightmares,' I thought. I wanted to get out of bed to get ready for the day, but there was no way I could leave her. So I lied there and tried to fall asleep again. When I realized that was impossible, I just looked down at her. I looked at every curve of her face, the sunlight coming in from the window glowing in her (hair color) hair. I really wanted to know her name. I bet it was as beautiful as she was. I knew it seemed weird just watching her like this, but I couldn't take my eyes away from her face.

"Ding dong"

'Who could that be on a Sunday at...' I glanced at my clock on my nightstand. 10:34 it read. I guess I did over sleep. I sighed. I just wanted to lay here with her. Of all the hours of the day, why come over now? My parents and siblings would be home tomorrow. I just wanted one more day with her alone. Have her all to myself.

'Ding dong'

I saw her shut her eyes tighter, irritated, the second time it rang. I tried to unclasp her wrist from my shirt without waking her but failed. As I tried to loosen up her fingers from the grip, her eyes slowly fluttered open. She looked at me with those deep (eye color) orbs. "There's someone at the door," I explained. "I should go see who's there. Stay here okay? I'll be right back." She nodded before squeezing my shirt a bit tighter then let it go. I smiled.

When I opened the front door I found Haru, Rei, and Nagisa standing there. "Hey, were supposed to be at swim practice today but you weren't there," Haru said irritated. "Any reason why?"

"I... um... sorry I'm not feeling too good. I was going to message you guys, but I fell back asleep," I told hesitantly. Haru's expression got even more irritated. He pushed me aside and walk in the house.

"What are you hiding in here?" He questioned. He walked to the kitchen and started looking through our cabinets. What was he expecting to find?

"Haru stop. I'm not hiding anything. could you guys please go? I need my rest," I replied panicking. There was a naked, possibly mute girl in my house. I couldn't have them getting the wrong idea. Plus she'd be afraid of the sudden newcomers.

"I'm not falling for that crap," he grumbled.

"Makoto what's going on?" Nagisa asked walking into the house with Rei following behind.

"You do seem to be in distress," Rei added.

"I'm alright guys real-" That's when I heard my door squeak open and heard footsteps.

"Who's there?" Haru called out. He started over to my room.

"Haru! Wait!" I ran up to stop him but slipped on the floor. I fell on top of him which also caused him to crash to the floor.

"Dammit Makoto what the hell is wrong with you?" He yelled.

"Are you guys alri- oh uh hello," Nagisa stopped. I looked up and saw her standing there with nothing but a sheet wrapped around her body.  She was staring down at us with shock in her eyes.

"Hey. Sorry about this; these are my friend. Don't worry they won't hurt you," I apologized. She walked over and grabbed my arm to help me up. "Thanks," I smiled. She stared up at me with bright eyes.

"You're hiding a naked girl in here!?" Haru said with fury, "What the hell do you think you're doing? You could get her pregnant!" he shouted.

"It's not like that really! I found her stranded at the beach last night! She has cuts and bruises all over her. She needs help. I think she's been abused," I said that last part quietly.

"Well she is cute," Nagisa said. He was a foot away from her and they were both looking at each other. He was giving her a friendly, goofy smile. While she stared back in wonder.

"Aren't your parents on a trip? Do they know about her? They're not gonna let her stay her you know. They most likely might take her to an orphanage," Rei explained.

"I know," I sighed. "That's why I need your guys' help convincing them to let her stay. Just for another year until I go to college."

"What are you going to do with her when you have to go to college," Rei asked.

"Take her with me," I said with a matter of fact. "Guys look at her. We can't take her to an orphanage."

"What about school for her? What about money? What about-"

"I know I know. I'll figure something out. I just can't leave her. Will you guys please, please help me?" I interrupted Rei.

"I like her!" Nagisa cheered. "Of course I'll help!"

"Maybe we could figure something out. I'll help since you guys had to put up with me," Rei answered.

"Thank you guys so much. Haru?" I turned to him. He looked back at me with the same expression he always had. Bored.

"I don't know her enough. Maybe if she talked," he looked at her. He said talk as if he was giving her an order.  She looked back up at him then stared at the ground. She then opened her mouth to say something but then closed it.

"You can talk to us," I soothed her. "You can talk to us anytime you want. Don't be afraid."

She thought for a moment then shook her head. "C'mon," Nagisa bent down. "You don't have to tell us your life story. For now we'd just like to know your name." She looked at him then back at me, then back to him. Her whole body tensed.

"It's (your name)," She mumbled. She spoke! She actually spoke! And her voice was just as beautiful as I imagined.

"Alright (your name)," I smiled. "We're not letting you go anywhere. You're staying here," I smiled. She smiled back. She was so cute!

"Are you good with kids at all?" Haru asked. After we finally convinced Haru to help us out, we called Rin and had his little sister, Gou, bring over some of her clothes that don't fit her anymore. (your name) was wearing a bright, yellow shirt with black shorts.

"Why would it matter if she was good with kids or not?" Rin asked.

"I just thought we'd have a better chance of getting her to stay here if she could possibly babysit Ren and Ran," he replied.

"Well what Makoto said earlier was pretty convincing," Nagisa added. "Convincing enough to get us to help him."

"What part was convincing?" I asked.

"Like how you said she'd been hurt and has been through a lot. Just tell them she'll be living here for just a year until you go off to college. That she'll be no trouble. Really she seems very nice and caring. I'm sure they'd have no trouble with her," he said. When I looked over at her i saw her blushing slightly. She also looked very troubled.

"Something wrong?" I nudged her.

She hesitated. "I... I don't want to be a burden on you guys... I should just go back home," She said quietly. A single tear fell out of her eye when she said 'home'.

"You're not a burden. I'm actually very excited to have you in the family. And I don't know what happened to you, but there is no way I'm letting you go back there. I couldn't live with myself if I did," I explained. I grabbed her hand and squeezed it.

After we had lunch and talked a bit more, we realized it'd be better if I just told my parents what I told them. I also thought I should probably ask (your name) about her home life. If my parents heard the horrible stories of what she had to go through, then maybe that'd convince them as well. No matter what, I am going to keep this girl.
