I try opening the door but it is locked. Josh must have heard me trying to open the door because he opened it.

I run in screaming. "Stop. Don't hurt him. Please don't hurt anyone."

What am I thinking? Cal wanted to bring me back to Brandon, why am I defending him? Because he doesn't deserve to be beaten. No one does.

"Mackenzie, were fine. Go back to your room. I'll be in there in a minute." Josh says while attempting to push me out of the room.

I look over at Cal holding his hand with the other. He looks like he is about to cry.

"I don't think you are fine. What happened to your hand Cal? Did Josh hurt you? He's not supposed to while interrogating, I can tell you that." I force myself back into the room.

"Mackenzie, I have this under control. Please go back to your room." Josh demands.

He is standing directly in my view of Cal. Cal tries to say something but he is cut off by Josh.

"Go to your room." He says looking down at me. I can see something in his eyes.

I turn around and storm out. I go to the main lobby and sit next down to a little boy. He was crying his little eyes out.

"Hello there." I said.

He wiped his eyes before saying anything. "Is my mommy okay?" He sniffles.

"I hope she is okay. My name is Mackenzie. What is yours?"

He looked about eleven. He has blonde hair and beautiful blue eyes.

"I'm Jay." He said crying less. "Why are you in here?" He asks.

"Well, my friend kept me in his house without telling anyone. I finally ran away. The police found me and asked me to come here so they could ask me questions."

As soon as I finished he jumped up and hugged me. He held on to me. I didn't know what to do so I hugged back. I started crying because Jay is the only one I've been able to talk to since I got here. He is the only one that has been here for me.

"Why are you crying?" He asked.

"You're such a good kid. I really do hope your mom is okay." We are still hugging.

All of the sudden he gets ripped away from me by an older gentleman. He seems to be in his mid 40s, possibly his dad.

"Let me go. I don't want to go home without mommy. Put me down." He is squirming in the mans hands.

"Excuse me, who are you?" I ask trying to sound rude.

"I'm this little cunts dad. Uncanny resemblance, right?" The smell of alcohol is radiating off of him.

"Leave him alone. He clearly doesn't want to go with you."

Not one officer is coming to find out what is wrong. We are in the middle of a police station for fucks sake. Why isn't anyone helping? I don't feel like taking matters into my own hands but I need to help this poor kid. I take a step towards the man and take a swing at his face.

I hit him on the nose causing him to stumble back. He drops Jay and hits the ground. I didn't think I hit him that hard. Jay goes running behind me and hugs my leg with the cast. The man is grabbing his nose as blood is gushing out. His once white shirt is now a deep, crimson red. Finally an officer comes by to see what the commotion is.

"What happened here?" He asks monotone.

"This man came in here and almost took my little brother." I had to lie otherwise the officer would have let the man take Jay. "I hit him because I don't want him to take Jay away from me."

"Alright, just sit down. Why are you two in here? Can I get a nurse?" He calls out.

"We are here because our mom came in here and we'd like to know if she is okay or not." I tell the officer. Lying again.

"Last name." He asks.

"Johnson." Jay says from behind me.

The officer went back behind his desk without another word. I turned around and gave Jay a big hug.

"Thank you Mackenzie. You saved me." He says into my chest.

"Jay, you can call me Mack."

"Johnson..." the officer yells from across the room.

Jay grabs my arm and runs toward the officer up front. "Is mommy okay?" He asks. His eyes are getting red again which means he is about to cry.

"Your mother has to go away for a little bit. She got into some trouble. Would you be able to stay with your sister for a little bit?" The officer says.

I'm hurting for Jay. He doesn't deserve this. He is just a little boy. He rips away from me and runs to the bathroom. The officer looks at me and shrugs. He then continues to go back behind his desk

"E... excuse me? May I speak to... my mother?" I ask hoping to meet this woman.

"Yeah. Follow me." He says.

He leads me down a darkened hallway. Almost like the one Cal is in. Every other light is broken or flickering causing the hallway to have an eerie vibe. We went down a flight of stairs and down another hallway. We stopped at a door with the number 108. This must be where she is at.

"Ma'am, your daughter is here to see you." He pushes me inside and slams the door shut, locking it immediately.
