Nikita's POV
After that text Michelle received, I was really worried that I would get some text too. It seemed really suspicious, considering the fact that Juno didn't get a text. Or Elliot.
We were on our way to Chris and Ken's place. New Mexico was really quiet for some reason, and so was everyone in the car. Juno was fast asleep and it was almost my turn to drive. It was an honor being able to touch the steering wheel of a Mercedes-Benz.
"I'm gonna knock out. Can you take over?" asked Michelle, while looking at me through the mirror.
I agreed and Michelle parked her car at what I assumed was a random motel. We stepped out of the car to switch seats, until I noticed who was sitting on a bench right where we parked.
It was Ken! Yes, Ken. Ken, the kid with dark black hair. He was using a leather jacket and Chuck Taylor's.
"Ken!!!!" I shouted in shock. He chuckled. "Kit, it's been years." He said from the bench.
Eventually he got up and gave me a warm hug. "You look great." I complimented.
"Thanks! You too. And Chris over there." He replied.
I paused and looked behind me to see a guy, wearing a white strapback hat, sitting on the curb of the motel....Smoking a cigarette.
Typical Chris. Michelle and I greeted him and gave him a punch on the shoulder.
Michelle almost forgot to hug Ken. They don't have that much good history together. At homecoming, Ken superglued Michelle's heels to the ground.
I'm sure she wouldn't let that ruin their friendship/relationship God damn who knows what they are.
"You guys are smoking. Niki, you don't use those nerd braces no more?" Chris asked. I know, dick move.
"No, but I can tell you should start pampering that mouth again because all that comes out is shit."
He laughed at my remark and whispered into my ear.
"Classic you." he said.
We all hopped back into the car to find Juno awake and Elliot asleep....Again.
Soon, we were heading back to our hometown.
Denver, Colorado, here we come.
Hours Later
The whole trip was exhausting. We took several breaks and we barely managed to fit into the car. The largest of us was Ken, so we made him lay down on the floor of the car.
By the next morning, we were on Colorado soil. The highway traffic was dense and slow as I predicted it to be.
"I need to piss," said Chris, "if I don't, man I don't know." he added.
Seconds of silence had passed, and Elliot eventually passed an empty water bottle to the back and handed it to Chris.
"Happy birthday." Elliot sarcastically cheered.
Chris opened the bottle and unashamedly peed in it. Juno and I didn't look, but Ken did, and he was laughing at the site.
After he finished peeing, he placed the bottle down.
"So...why are we here again?" said Ken in a curious fashion.
A moment of silence struck. I didn't want one break the news to them that one of our very close friends had died, so I signaled Juno.
She began. "Well...." Juno then explained every possible detail about the accident.
They were shocked, but had to accept Adolf's untimely death.
