I woke up from Sam's guest room, which was now my room. I sat up and placed my feet on the floor. It wasn't cold, nor was it wooden. It took me awhile to finally get used to things. I didn't smell the bacon and eggs this morning like I used to. I didn't see my mother smiling at me while she was cooking. All I smelled was the dog food. I forgot to mention that Sam had a small Yorkshire Terrier. Every time I came near him, he would run away. He probably knew I had powers and was just terrified of me.
I opened the door. I looked down at the long hallway. As I walk down the hallway I look at the pictures that were hanging on the wall. One of the pictures on the wall was Sam, his mom, and a guy that seemed to be in his mid 30's. He had a short beard and he looked huge. He looked like wrestler. I took a closer look at him and realized that was Sam's dad. They both looked alike except Sam had a different nose and different body shape.
As I go into the bathroom I look at myself in the mirror. Everything looked the same except some bruises on my shoulder and my hair. Since the date with Jess, I haven't really taken care of myself. My hair was longer and my face seemed kind of dirty. Maybe It was time for me to get a haircut. Maybe I should start fresh.
After I washed my face I knocked on Sam's door to wake him up. He groaned the minute I mentioned it was time for school.
I put on a white shirt and some jeans. I put on some white sneakers and combed my hair. Once I got downstairs I poured myself a bowl of cereal. Sam's mom had to work really early in the morning, so it was just me and Sam.
As I was eating my cereal I hear Sam's footsteps heading my direction. He pours himself some cereal and sits across from me. He seemed to be upset.
"Uh, you okay?" I said as I grab a spoonful of cereal.
He stared into his bowl.
"Today is the day we go back to school.. Without Lizette.." He looked up at me.
I stared back at him.
"Sam.. She might get through it.. We don't know." I said trying to make him less upset.
"I guess." as he spins the cereal with his spoon.
Sam and I decided to just walk to school.
"Can you just fly us there?"
"No, I don't want to use my powers. Not yet." I said as I looked at the busy people heading to work and minding their own business.
I see kids walking with their mothers hand in hand.
As we enter the school building, everyone had their eyes focused on me and Sam. I just ignored them and kept walking. We hear whispers coming from each end of the hallways and stares all around us. Me and sam separated to our lockers. Once I opened my locker, I hear footsteps coming my way. I closed my locker and It was Spike.
"Not today Spike just leave me alone." I say beginning to walk away until he puts his hand on my shoulder.
"No, I just wanna say-" he started only to be interrupted by me slamming him into the lockers.
"I said not today." everything around us was silent. Kids around us were staring. Waiting for what was going to happen next. I noticed them staring. I let him go and walked away.
I decided not to go to English. I'm still not ready to see Lizette's seat empty. I walked aimlessly in the halls, hoping no monitor catches me.
As I was walking, I see a girl coming out of the girls bathroom. She had dirty blonde hair. I knew it was Jess.
I run up to her, placing my hand on her shoulder. She turns around and her whole expression was a surprised look.
"Oh my god.. Ryan.. I'm so sorry.." She said as she tackles me into a hug.
I hugged her tight. Holding back my tears. I didn't want to lose her or let her go.
She broke away from the hug.
"Are you okay?" She said with worry in her eyes.
"Yeah.. listen I don't really want to talk about it.. I wanna focus on you.. Or us." I held her hand.
"Ryan.. I'm moving.." Her expression changed.
"Y-yeah I know.. But I have an idea. I can fly to your house every weekend. We can make it work." I tried to sound optimistic. I wanted this to work. I didn't want to lose Jess neither.
She let go of my hand. She stared at the floor.
"Ryan.. It isn't a good idea. We should just end it."
My heart dropped.
"W-what?"
"I think we should just stay as friends."
I stared at her in disbelief.
"J-jess come on, we can work this ou-"
"No and don't say goodbye. Let's just say.. See you later." she said looking at me.
I stare at her, debating if I should be mad, upset or just accept it. It's better If I just accept it. The way things are going now, It'll probably be safer if I just don't bring her into my life anymore.
"See you later."
With that said she turned around and walked away.
