Prologue;;

Cato didn't take his eye off Katniss as she stepped up to take her turn at the archery station.

He wanted to chance to weigh up the competition before he entered the Arena. He needed to know the people he could easily eliminate, and the people who would take a lot longer to remove their life from them.

Once Katniss had taken her turn, Cato knew that she was going to be tough competition and he was going to have go after her right at the start to ensure that she didn't spring any unexpected attacks on him.

Although Cato had the strength to be able to destroy her, and he had the capability to kill every single Tribute in the Arena, he knew that he needed a strategy and it needed to be a good one otherwise he was going to be in trouble.

"Nice shot." Cato speaks cheerily to Katniss as she walks away from the station she had been at seconds before.

"Save it. I don't need to hear anything from people like you." Katniss snaps, unsure of why he is even bothering to compliment her when she has already accepted she's as good as dead the second the Games begin.

"Someone's got a nasty temper on them." Cato laughs.

"And someone's got a tendency not to get the hint. Leave me alone." Katniss replies before she turns her back on the District 2 Tribute, who finds himself grinning smugly to himself as he realises her temper is only going to get her into trouble and no one is going to want to sponsor someone like her.

People don't want to sponsor someone that has got an attitude as bad as the Katniss presents when speaking to new people, and they're not going to be in a hurry to want to save the likes of her either should she get herself into an inescapable and awkward position.

Cato turns his back on the highly temperate Tribute from District 12, returning to the people he had already formed an alliance with to inform them of how little a threat Katniss Everdeen really was to them when it came to actually fighting in the Arena.

They were going to be pleased that they didn't have to worry about some girl who doesn't appreciate it when people are actually attempting to help her last as long as possible in the Arena.

"What was that all about?" Clove asks suspiciously when Cato is a couple of centimetres away from them.

"Nothing. I was checking out the competition." Cato shrugs.

"And?" Glimmer urges him, pushing for an answer so she is aware of the people they're up against.

"Well, the boy from 12 is as good as useless and possess no talent with any weapon at all, so he should be pretty easy to take it when it comes to it." Cato starts, giving them part of the good news which they were hoping for when they noticed Cato had moved away from them and was actually mixing with the other Tributes rather than mocking them and intimidating them in such a manner it might force them to not even bother trying to even win the Games because they didn't stand a chance.

"What about the girl? She seems pretty good with a bow?" Clove states.

"She might be good with a bow, but her attitude stinks. She's got no allies, she's can't do anything other than shot an arrow and, with an attitude like the one she posses, she will be lucky to get any sponsors. Katniss Everdeen is as good as dead before she even steps foot in the Arena." Cato answers, looking around at the grins which had now formed on the three faces which were before his eyes as they all realised the competition was going to be as easy as it is every single year with a Career being crowned Victor of the Games - such as happened every single year, it was simply a question of which District was going to win the crown.

District 1 with Glimmer and Marvel as Tributes.

Or District 2 with Cato and Clove as Tributes.

"I say, we take down all the weaker ones first and then we go after District 12. The sooner we dispose of them, the easier it'll become for one of us to actually win." Clove finally speaks up.

"Agreed." Cato replies, nodding to his teammate in approval of her plan with a smile on his face.

"And, when it comes down to just the four of us..." Glimmer begins.

"...it will only be a question of who is strong enough to overpower three people at the same time, therefore taking the crown." Marvel continues.

However, this alliance was not to last, and it wasn't to be as simple as the Careers first believed it was going to be for them.
