It had only been a month. Weird things were happening around the house, objects moving with impossible feats, strange odours filling certain rooms, power going out an unusual times.

There was something going on between Phil and Dan, though neither of them really knew.

"Is he my boyfriend?" Phil would always ask himself. He wasn't sure, it's not like they slept in the same bed or showed an public displays of affection. They would cuddle on the sofa, and kissing each other seemed natural by now.

"Hey, Dan!" Phil called. He stood in the kitchen, cleaning the counters.

"Dan?" He called again. When he got no response, Phil dropped the cloth on the counter and went into the hall, knocking on Dan's door.

"Dan, are you in there?" Phil carefully cracked open the door. He expected no one to be in the room, but was taken aback when he found something laying in the bed. "Is that.. you?" He went into the room, approaching the bed. Phil gently shook Dan's shoulder, slight stirring coming from the body.

Phil shook him again, Dan's eyes opening slowly. He grumbled something, looking up at Phil.

"Was I asleep?" Dan asked.

"I assume so." Phil replied, stepping back from the bed.

"Ah, shit." Dan groaned. "Don't let me fall asleep. Ever."

"Why?"

"Because," Dan sighed, sitting up. "If I fall asleep there's a chance I could leave my body."

Phil's eyes widened. "Oh." They both were silent. "I'll keep an eye out then."

"Thanks.." Dan muttered, getting up from the bed. He slinked his arm over Phil's shoulders, rubbing his eyes.

"Isn't sleep like a luxury?" Phil pondered.

"Yeah." Dan said. "But like I said, it can be risky."

Phil nodded, walking out of the room with Dan. He almost forgot why he was originally looking for Dan.

"So," Phil started.

"So what?" Dan replied quickly as they walked into the living room. They flopped onto the sofa, Phil craning his neck up to stretch.

"What are we?"

"What do you mean?"

"Like, what is our relationship? Are we just friends.. or more?" Phil sighed softly.

Dan clenched his jaw, running his tongue over his bottom lip. "I don't know. What do you want us to be?" Phil shrugged. He didn't really care what they were, he just wanted to know what their relationship meant to Dan. "I'm not good with relationships. And, I don't really show emotions or feelings towards people. Being a demon, as you know. So I don't know what we are. Whatever label you like I'm cool with."

To be honest... That hurt. Dan was outright saying that he had no feelings towards Phil, that he was almost playing him on without realizing, hurt Phil's heart pretty bad. Over the past month, Phil had grown an attraction towards Dan. Whether it was just him noticing that Dan's vessel was attractive, or if it was some sort of romantic attraction.. Phil wanted more than just a friendship with the other.

"Hmm." Phil grunted.

Phil sighed to himself, getting up off his bed and walking out of his room. It was about time he made his decision.

"Dan..?" Phil called.

"Kitchen." He heard.

Phil slowly walked into the room, Dan slumped over the countertop as he fiddled with something on his phone.

"Where'd you get that?" Phil asked, confused. Dan looked over at him shrugging. Realization sunk in, Phil scoffing. "Don't tell me you stole it."

"I didn't steal it, I'm borrowing it." Dan muttered. Phil groaned.

"Dan!"

"Jesus Christ Phil who do you take me as? The devil?" Dan joked. "I didn't steal it, I have access to these kinds of thing you know. Though it doesn't serve me much purpose."

Phil muttered an 'oh my god' under his breath, sighing loudly and leaning against the countertop. "Look, I didn't come here to talk about how you somehow got a perfectly new phone.." Phil started. He really did not want to deal with the topic at hand.

"Then what did you want?" Dan teased. He had a smile on his face, but when Phil didn't smile back and instead looked downcast, Dan's faded away. He gently set the electronic on the counter, letting it slide towards the backsplash.

"You know how I asked you earlier about our... relationship?" Phil asked.

"Yeah. What about it?" Dan leaned against the counter, his appearance relaxing.

"I don't think I can continue on like this. You said you don't have feelings of the such towards people. So why should mine be unrequited?" Phil asked. He was getting more and more upset over the situation as Dan acted oblivious to the whole situation. I have to say it. Phil urged himself no matter how much he didn't want to. But as he thought that, Dan's eyes flickered towards Phil, a worried look in his eyes.

Dan pushed himself off the counter, slowly approaching Phil. "No. No, Phil, please don't. Don't say what I think you're going to say."

"I..." Phil started. God, he felt so fucking guilty. "You're here for fulfilling my..."

"No. Phil. Please don't."

"For..."

"Phil. Stop it." Dan's voice got more stern as the conversation went on, his jaw clenching. He grabbed Phil's wrists, squeezing them to make sure he wouldn't leave.

Phil glared up at Dan through his lashes, pulling his arms away from Dan and crossing them over his chest. "Would you stop that?" He scoffed. "I summoned you to help me find my soulmate, and with you pretending to love me, all you're doing is confusing my feelings. The deal was that you help me find my soulmate, and when you do, you leave me be. When I'm on my deathbed, then you can have me for as long as you fucking want!" Phil shouted. He quickly turned away and left the kitchen, storming off to his room.

Dan stood in the middle of the small room, staring at the doorway. He sighed. This was the exact opposite of what was supposed to happen. This was his fear.

He shook his head, allowing a hurt smile to spread across his face. "I was helping you." He whispered. "Because I am your soulmate."
