Chapter 4

“Don’t forget your term papers are coming up soon,” Professor Givens said. I shuffled my notes into the right order and closed them into my folder. Class was over and boy was I happy. Everything had seemed so slow today, like everything moved at a snail pace. Other than that, the whole day had been normal, a little foggy, but normal. It was cold, like always. I still hated the cold, especially thirty degrees and below. After retrieving my things and putting them away, I slung my bag over my shoulder and made my way up the ramp and out of the classroom. When I got outside, Frankie was waiting for me at the door.

“Hey girrrl,” he said, all I did was wave. Frankie was a gay friend I had made at school orientation. He was cool and I loved being around him, he always cheered me up. What really cracked me up about him was his crush on Raleigh, which I found adorable, even though that was my boyfriend. Frankie and I started to make our way outside of the school. I twirled my keys in my hand; I had lunch with Raleigh today and I was excited. When we got outside, I hit the unlock button on my keys making my car chirp. I threw my bag into the back seat and then got into the driver’s side.

“Am I taking you home today or to your boyfriend’s house?” I asked, jokingly as we got into the car. Frankie chuckled.

“Please, he’s not my boyfriend, he’s more of a boy toy. But you can take me to his house,” Frankie replied, I shook my head and giggled as I started the car.

“You can’t be serious.” Frankie dug into his bag, looking for his phone while I turned up the heat. Raleigh had no problems with me and Frankie being friends, he wasn’t really the jealous type.

“Oh girl, but I am.” I shook my head again, Frankie was a trip. Every week he had a new boyfriend and or boy toy. I could never keep up with the man’s love life, it was always changing like the seasons. I put the car in reverse and started to back up. “Are you excited to have lunch with your boo today?” I smiled, flipping the car to drive and easing out of the parking lot.

“Yes, I am excited to see my boo today.”

“You guys are so cute.” I shook my head and smiled broader. Hearing Raleigh’s name always brightened my day. I was basically a typical girl when it came to him. When I got to the school exit, I turned on my fog lights.

“Why the hell is it so foggy today?” Frankie shrugged.

“Maybe God’s feeling a little cloudy today.”

“I said fog Frankie, not clouds.” Frankie looked at me with a look of evilness that I spotted from my peripheral.

            “Same damn shit.”

“Are those some curse words I hear?”

“Yes they are!” Frankie stopped looking at me as I found a break in the traffic and pulled away from the school entrance. Suddenly, I heard a phone ring and felt my pocket buzz. I pulled my phone from my pocket and Raleigh’s name was on the screen.

“Hello?” I said, answering the phone. Frankie shook his head.

“Are we still on for lunch today?” Raleigh asked, sounding tired.

“Yeah, but are you alright?” I asked. Raleigh had been like this for days now and it was really getting irritating at this point. I had asked him numerous times to let it go and the universe would work it out, but Raleigh insisted on holding onto it.
