Chapter 10

Bella’s condition was improving greatly, making me extremely happy. The big cut on her head has started healing and scabbing over. Bella had even begun to become her happy bouncy self again and was soon going back to school. The friends that had come to visit her in the hospital were happy with her return.

I had lived at my mother’s house for a month now. My clothing collection had grown, since I had been buying clothes. It sucked and put holes in my pockets, but I considered it so much better than having to go get my stuff. I knew I was running away from Raleigh, but I couldn’t help it. Then again, it’s kind of hard to run away from someone who consumes your thoughts.

I didn’t have class, so I had to work at my grandfather’s mechanics shop. The morning was rainy and gloomy, making me want to stay in bed all day. The weatherman had forecasted rain for the next two days, which sucked even more. The gloomy weather still did not help the guilt I still felt. Living with it every day was like living with a burden. It sucked carrying this around with me. The damn feeling was driving me up the wall, I would burst into tears out of random and all in all it was horrible.

On my way to my grandfather’s shop, I thought about the times that Raleigh had tried to contact me. Raleigh still had my number in his phone and called me occasionally. Every time his name popped up on the screen it killed me. I had to fight the urge to answer it immediately. One day he had even shown up at my job and my grandfather had lied for me, saying I wasn’t there. Thank god for gramps right?

I pulled into the parking space that was reserved for me and sighed. It was going to be a long day, my muscles were tensed up because of the weather and my head was hurting slightly. I exited the car and entered the shop. The normal sounds of tools clanging, machines running, and metal cutting assaulted my ears. I had to walk through the repair area to get to the office. “Jimmy, where’s granddad?” I asked one of my grandfather’s employees, Jimmy. Jimmy looked up from the car and removed his goggles.

“He should be in the office area, he told me he wanted some coffee,” Jimmy explained. I nodded and walked towards the office. My grandfather was bent over the coffee machine.

“Grandpa,” I sung, happy to see him. He turned around and smiled.

“Elena!” he greeted, hugging me tightly. Even in my grandfather’s old age he was still very active, and that I was proud of him for. “I need you to work the 10-6.” The only thing I didn’t like was how straightforward he was. I had seen him for only a few seconds and he was down to business. Sighing, I nodded my head. “Cheer up; it’s not all that bad.” He grabbed his coffee and made his way to the garage. I reluctantly took my post behind the cash register and the computer. My mind started to race like it always did. All my mind did was think about the terrible situation.

Raleigh swam through my mind like a fish in salt water. All of the memories we created flowed through my mind. I hated it and most of the time and always put my head down. Most of the time I was hoping to fall asleep, but my conscious mind always reminded me where I was at. Sometimes I caught myself daydreaming him walking through the door, but most of the time I shook the daydream from my head. All the times I had thought of him, I had never imagined us getting back together.

To try to get Raleigh off my mind, I started to think about Doug. From what I understood Doug was a great man, even though I barely knew him. His death had seemed suspicious, but the police had ruled it as suicide. Something about it just didn’t fit right, Doug of all people commit suicide? And after seeing Cameron, my suspicions had rose even higher. If Cameron was out, that means he would try to get to one of us. I hoped and prayed Cameron was not trying to get Revenge on me, but you never know.

The sound of the doorbell clanging jolted my attention; a man had walked through the door. A beanie was on his head and his jacket was pulled up to right under his nose. I could barely see his face and I didn’t like it. He approached the counter and I smiled, faking it.

“How can I help you?” I asked, hoping he would remove the coat. I wasn’t trying to hear him talk muffled.

“I’m here to pick up a part for my car, the name should be C. Folley,” the man responded. I nodded and put the name into the computer. The screen popped up about a part for a radiator.

“Camden Folley, 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee?” I looked to the man for confirmation, he nodded his head yes. “Cash or debit?”

“Debit.” The man took a card out of his pocket. I slid the card swipe towards him. He swiped his Wells Fargo card and input his pin. The receipt started to print and I handed him a copy to sign.

“Give me a second.” I pushed through the door to the garage, going to the parts section. Usually the parts were labeled by name, so I scanned the box for Folley. After moving a few parts, I found it. It was actually heavy and I was thankful when I made it back to the office. “Here you go, have a nice day.” The man disappeared back out the door, clanging the bell again. I sighed and leaned my head on my hand. Then, I realized the receipt. The man was actually smart; he took his copy with him. Picking up the receipt and checking the signature, I noticed there was something written on the back.

What I saw made me drop the receipt in horror, written on the back was revenge, written the same way it was on Doug’s suicide note.

Someone was out to get me.

I most definitely had to get out now.
