Chapter 9
“I made pancakes like I promised!” I yelled, as I heard the door open. I had just finished cooking my last pancake as Bella came through the door. It was exciting having her back in the house.
“I’ve been waiting all day for them!” Bella yelled, walking into the kitchen. I shut the stove off and presented her plate to her.
“For you madam,” I chuckled, causing her to smile. My mother walked in behind her, tossing her keys onto the counter. Bella took the plate from my hand and went off to get the syrup.
“Did you make enough for me?” my mother asked, peering over at the food. I shook my head yes. “Good.”
“I got a date later tonight,” I admitted. E had asked me to go to the winter parade with him and I had agreed with no hesitation. My mother looked at me, her eyes wide.
“With?” she asked, taking a plate out of the cabinet.
“This guy I met.” My mother shook her head; I guess she was expecting Raleigh. I looked down at the counter and fidgeted with my hands. “I have to move on mom.”
“Whatever you do, I’m behind you one-hundred percent.” My mother poured syrup on her pancakes and then went to find Bella. I looked around at the kitchen; I had managed not to mess up the kitchen. I was proud. Grabbing my plate, I went to settle in with my mother and sister; this was going to be a long day.
I had told E that we could find each other at the parade. My trust level with him was not high enough for me to get in his car with no hesitation. Of course, had it been Raleigh it would’ve been okay. I shook the thought from my head. Raleigh had been on my mind a lot lately and it was irritating. I was trying to move on with my life and here he was, popping up occasionally. My face twisted into disgust as another thought of him crossed my mind. “Go away,” I silently and sternly whispered. Raleigh was my past and if he was lucky enough, E was my future. Besides, E seemed normal, for now.
I made sure to park away from the traffic, so after it was over I could get home quick. For some odd reason I was missing Bella dearly. I chalked it up to the fact that she had come home that day and the fact that I had missed her greatly.
When I parked my car, I got out of it and started to walk towards the parade. Many people were pouring out of cars around me, meaning they had had the same idea. I prayed that when I was leaving the traffic wouldn’t be bad. “Oh it’ll be fine!” I heard from my right, it was E. I smiled.
“Good evening,” I greeted, ignoring what he just said. E smiled at me, showing all his teeth. I became lost in his eyes again, they were very enticing.
“Are you cold?” he asked, turning his head, breaking the eye contact. It felt like the walk to the parade was slowed down. E grabbed my hand, catching me off guard. I let him hold it; it had been a long time since someone had held my hand. Raleigh used to do it all the time but it had slowly worked its way out of our relationship.
“I’m not cold now,” I joked as we arrived at the parade. It had started, but it was down the street.
“You’re not worried about me holding your hand?” I shook my head. It was nice and warm, his skin was also soft. Even thought I was here with E, my mind couldn’t help but wonder to Raleigh. My mind wondered what he was doing, if he had even thought about what happened between us. I hoped I hadn’t hurt him as bad as I thought. E squeezed my hand and pointed at a float. There were people dressed as reindeer dancing to ‘Walking in a Winter Wonderland’. I giggled.
