Chapter 4

We all woke up and showered. I got my period today so I was wearing softball spandex shorts under my sweatpants, and a t-shirt. Once we were all ready we headed downstairs and to the kitchen where Maggie made waffles, pancakes, eggs, toast, bacon, and sausage. My mouth was watering because it smelt so fucking good. “Holy shit Maggie. Are we feeding an army,” laughed Zach looking at all the food. Maggie slapped his arm with a spatula, “What your language Zachary,” she said giving him a stern look. Zach looked down ashamed. Whenever she used his full name he knew she was serious. “Sorry Maggie,” he said looking at the floor. “It’s alright. Now I know we had three extra people over so I thought I’d go all out. Besides, I’ve seen all of you little pigs eat,” she said laughing. Rose looked like she was about to say something but thought better of it. Rose was a girl all the way except when it came to two things: softball and food. That girl can seriously eat, unless she’s out on a date.

We headed to school. We all got out and went to sign in as late because there was an accident on the way. We missed homeroom so we all went to our classes. I had Honors Trig/Pre-Cal first. Ughhh, I hate math. I walked in and was surprised for two reasons. You see, we sat with a partner, there was an uneven amount in the class so I got to sit by myself. So I was surprised to see someone sitting in the seat next to mine and then there’s the fact that it was Noah. “How nice of you to finally grace us with your presence Ms. Delgado. Please take your seat next to your new partner Mr. Ferrara,” said the teacher sounding annoyed that I was late. I walked to the back and took my seat. “Hey,” said Noah smirking. “Hi,” I reply annoyed because I forgot my Ibuprofen in my locker and I have some serious cramps right now. “If I remember correctly,” he starts sounding a little confused, “if you’re late to class it’s an automatic detention. But you didn’t get one. Care to share.” “My aunt is a very generous in her donations,” I say. “Oh. So you’re a rich bitch who gets everything she wants and gets away with anything,” he says. “Listen here Noah. I’m only going to say this once. Call me a rich bitch one more time and I will personally give you a back eye and a broken nose,” I say. I hate people like him. They think just my aunt is rich, I’m a stuck up bitch with my head up my ass thinking I’m better than everyone else.

The bell rings and I pick up my bags and leave. I went to my locker and got Ibuprofen and my wallet. On my way to the gym I picked up a water bottle. I was so not feeling this today. I walked in and went over to my friends who sat in a circle stretching. “Hey Sky. Stretch out real good cause we’re working on fitness today,” says Rose with a groan. “I can’t believe I’m actually going to have to sweat in front of all the guys,” she says sounding mortified. We all start laughing. And my good mood is immediately ruined once I hear his voice, “Hey guys.” “Well I’m gonna go talk to Coach. Catch you guys later,” I say turning around and purposefully shoving Noah with my shoulder. “Hey Coach. What’s up?” He looks up form his clipboard and smiles. “Why hello Sky. I’m just figuring out how to torture you all today,” he says smirking. “Sounds great,” I say sounding enthusiastic. He starts laughing. “So are you read to pitch today,” he asks. I give him a confused look. “After school today we are doing a softball vs baseball scrimmage.” Ughh, could my day get any worse. “Yea. I’ll be there.” Coach blew his whistle. “Ok, everybody get ready to have some fun.” With a groan the torture began.

The rest of the day went by pretty slowly considering Noah was in every one of my classes. He had apparently been moved up to honors.  My day was ten times better after school though. I ran out of tampons. FML. I drove to the nearest store and picked up a box. Once I got to the field Coach looked pissed. I knew that look, he was going to yell at me in front of everyone. Well this is going to be awkward, for him I mean. “Well everyone, look who finally decided to show up. Where the hell have you been Delgado,” he screamed at me. By now, everyone was looking at the two of us. “I ran out of tampons and had to go pick some up. Sorry Coach.” The look on his face was priceless, I hope someone got a photo. He cleared his throat, “Well j-just don’t let it happen again.” With that being said the game started.

Noah’s Pov

It was the bottom of the 7th inning and can I just say damn. No one has gotten a hit off of Sky the whole game. The softball team was whipping our ass 7-0. One of the new kids was up to bat. I think his name was John and he was actually pretty good. Anyways, it was his first time up to bat and he looked scared shitless. I looked at Sky and instead of the usual smirk whenever one of the boys was up to bat, she looked like she felt bad for the kid. She called a time out and all the girls huddled around her. “Hey man, I’ve been meaning to talk to you,” said Zach sitting down next to me. “Hey, what’s up?” “What did you do to Sky to get her so pissed of at you.” “ Well in Trig, I might have called her a rich bitch because she got away with being late to class. But I mean her aunt is rich and funds the school so she gets off the hook for everything. I really don’t see how I was wrong in what I said.” In all honestly, I believed what I said 100%. Zach just sighed and shook his head. “Sky isn’t a rich bitch. If you got to know her better you’d see that she’d do anything for someone she cares about. She doesn’t like the fact she gets away with pretty much anything, in fact, most of the time she asks to be punished. She’s not some ‘rich bitch’ as you put.” He motioned towards the field, “Look for yourself.”

I looked up and she was mid motion. When the ball was released, it couldn’t have been going more than 30 mph. John looked shocked, he loaded, swung, and hit it out of the park. The whole baseball team was immediately at home plate as he rounded second. All of a sudden he slipped and couldn’t get up. We couldn’t go out there and help him up or else his homerun wouldn’t count. Sky was immediately by his side, helping him up, and helping him make his way towards home. Once he stepped on the plate, we took him form Sky. She looked at me and said, “He must have tripped on the sprinkler head that is poking out of the ground. He should go get his ankle checked out, it’s probably just a sprain but still.” “Thanks,” I said. “I didn’t do it for you,” she said. She then walked to our dugout and said, “Hey kid,” John looked up, “Nice rip.” With that she went back to the mound. The rest of the inning went by and we ended up losing 7-1.

I guess I was wrong about her, she wasn’t some stuck up rich girl who used her aunt’s money to get out of things. I don’t know what it was, but I suddenly wanted to get to know her better. However, considering I insulted her and she hates my guts right now, that is going to be extremely hard. I went up to her after the game. “Hey Sky, listen I’m,” she cut me off mid-sentence. “Listen Noah, I know you’re sorry. I saw you talking to Zach. He told me what you said and I understand where you were coming from. I just don’t appreciate you judging me when you don’t even know me,” she said. She started to walk away. “Let me make it up to you,” I blurted out. She turned around and raise an eyebrow giving me a look that said continue. “Let me make it up to you, this Saturday. Anywhere you want, my treat.” She looked like she was genuinely considering it. “Alright, pick me up at noon. Don’t be late.” I was shocked to say the least. She actually said yes. She walked away, but before she got in her car she turned around. “Make sure to wear something comfortable. Oh and make sure to bring al lot of cash. I’m holding you to it being your treat.” With that she drove away.

I stood there for a good five minutes with my mouth hanging open before Zach came out. “Hey man, ready to go.” I cleared my throat, “Umm, yea. Let’s go.” The whole way home I could think about was Sky and the fact that we were actually going on a date Saturday. Wait, hold up a second, was this even a date. I mean, I didn’t say it was a date and neither did she. Well, guess I’ll just have to wait and see. The rest of the week flew by. The closer Saturday came the more I was nervous about our ‘date’. I mean what if something went wrong. What if I said something completely idiotic and she never talked to me again. What if she blew me off. This is the most stressful date ever. Actually, now that I’m thinking about it, this is the most stressed out I’ve ever been about a date. Scratch that, I’ve never been stressed about going out with a girl in my life. What's wrong with me? Looks like you actually like Sky Delgado. No that’s not it, is it? I’ve never actually liked a girl before. There’s a first time for everything.
