Three days later, Erik bursts into my room. I scramble to wake up, and I tilt my head to ask with body language, 'What's up?'
"I promised you that you would be healed in ten days time, at least. Want to put that to the test?" he asks, eyes glowing with some pride.
"Sure." I say smoothly. My eyes light up. "I can talk!"
He smiles. "Indeed you can. Think you can do anything else?"
"My chores." I say gloomily.
"No!" he says quickly. "Not in that sense! I meant something else, singing!"
"Oh..." I feel my cheeks heat up. "What if I'm bad?"
"Then I can help you improve."
"No, what if I'm so bad you get upset?"
"...I can still help."
"But I told you to save your teachings for Christine already."
His shoulders droop. "I..." he starts slowly, "I just want to hear you sing. Is that such a crime?"
Feeling guilty, I frown ever so slightly. "No, it's not. I'm just shy, that's all."
He perks up a bit. "I can help you out with that!" he says excitedly.
"How so?"
"Follow me."
I follow him to his sleeping chambers, and instantly feel small and embarrassed.
"Hey, focus on me." He calls softly from his bench for the organ.
I look over at him, and he's watching me. I feel...safe.
"Come here."
I sit next to him on his bench, and he continues to watch me.
"Okay, watch this." Erik slowly tears his gaze away from me, and then to the organ.
He plays elegantly, but doesn't seem to notice me. Like, he's lost in his own world. Then after he finishes his small song, he looks back at me.
"Did you notice anything?"
"You did not seem to notice anything around you?"
"Yes!" he gets excited. He clears his throat. "I mean, yes. You-when you want to do something, but are shy about such, you should just block out the world, and not think about them. Think about the thing you are doing, and not them. Think you can do that?"
"For when I sing for you?" he nods. "Maybe."
His eyes glow, but then search around his room, either looking or listening for something.
"I have to go." He murmurs. "You'll be fine here, right?"
I look around the room to see if I can find what he was searching for. My search comes up negative. "Christine's calling, isn't she?"
He nods. "You will be fine here, though, yes?"
"Yes."
"Alright."
He gets up from the bench to grab his cloak and wide-brimmed fedora hat. He looks back over to me and walks back to the bench.
"I should be back in a few hours. Think you will be awake then?" concern raises in his eyes.
"I might. If not, wake me up, please?"
"Definitely." He replies. He takes one of my hands.
"Erik?"
