The girl grew as all children do. She told people she had to take medication or do treatments as if she was proud. I guess at that age she couldn't be anything else really. She matured much faster because she had to tell people every time she ate that she had to go take her pills and she developed a script to tell people when they asked why but her mom noticed that it seemed to get shorter and shorter.
Charlotte had to do a treatment were she had to put on a vest that looked a bit like a life jacket and attach tubes to it and the tubes were then attached to a machine that filled the vest full of air and then made the air vibrate in order to try and shift the mucus that was constantly stuck to her lungs. I was definitely fun at first... it made her sound like a sheep and her and her mom could laugh until the 20 minutes was up. But then the TV or the game couldn't go loud enough and the treatment made her miss sometimes a whole episode! That just wouldn't stand with little Charlotte now would it? There was screaming crying and kicking tantrums between her and her mother. Then she adjusted and matured and grew.
This fast maturing meant that she soon preferred talking to her mom's friends than with her own. So she didn't get many friends but by the time she was starting to get friends, her mom met someone online. He was English and I think part of her liked him because his voice could sooth the wounds ripped open and salted by CF that she could never tell her 7 year old daughter. They talked for hours and hours. Then something incredible happened to this little broken family. They got to get one wish granted. This was no fairy tale. An organisation called wishing star was contacted by Charlotte's grandma and they agreed to meet us and grant one of Charlotte's wishes. Well little Charlotte was 7 so of course the first and only thing her heart desired was... Disneyland. So it was all planned and organised and payed for by wishing star. Charlotte's mom was even able to convince Adam to leave his rainy little island and go with them.
Everything was ready and planned and they were all super excited to go. And then Charlotte got sick. Not like cough and cold sick but like hospitals and IVs and oxygen supplies sick. As soon as she got sick she had to be in hospital for at least 2 weeks if not more. This happened 3 weeks before they were booked to fly to California. Everyone who knew Charlotte was so sick with worry that they may as well have been in hospital with Charlotte! 2 weeks and 4 IVs later she was ready to go to Disney. She had the best time of her life. She would always be able to remember no matter how old she might get. She wouldn't let CF get in the way of that.
