Dean's P.O.V:
I waited a whole hour until finally the bell rang and Eliza came down the hall. She opened her locker and grabbed her books.
" How was it?" I ask.
" Are you serious? It's math, it sucked." She answered, shutting her locker.
We leave the school and Eliza goes down a different path than the one she takes home."This isn't the way home..."
She looks at me and smirks.
" We aren't going home. I need to clear my mind. We are walking to the pond. Down the block, about 10 minutes or so..."
This girl... and I'm not supposed to like her...
"So, what's on your mind?"
"I don't know where to start. It's so funny how you came out of nowhere and say you know where my dead grandfather is and that he's the one who sent you to watch me. And are you really a demon?" Eliza says.
Here's the thing. I'm not really a demon. I'm an Angel in disguise. Yeah, it's cheesy, I know. Demons aren't guardians. Their job is to kill. My job is a guardian. To protect. I work on Earth. I go back up every now and then. But Eliza doesn't know that. I only have dark wings to protect myself from actual demons.
"Almost everything I've said before is true." I say.
"What? Tell me everything!" She says, stopping in her tracks.
"Sorry. I guess you'll find out sooner or later..."
We reach a pond and Eliza puts her bag down and grabs a stone.
She closes her eyes & holds it up to her chest and whispers something while smiling as the sunset glows on her face. Her eyes open and the sun's glow is sparkling in her eyes. Eliza tosses the stone into the pond and turns to me.
She says a couple words that remind me of my little sister, who would always beg me to take her to a wishing-well one day...
" Go on, pick up a stone and make a wish, silly."
Emily Christian Moréll. My little sister." W-what? Sorry..." I stutter.
" Make. A. Wish." She says, picking up a stone and handing it to me.
"It won't come true, I'm already dead. There's nothing for me to wish for."
What I really wanted was to see my sister one last time." You could wish to see your little sister again." Eliza speaks up, as if she read my mind.
"Okay, okay. Gimme the dang stone."
I held it up to my chest. I opened one eye and glanced over at Eliza." Close your eyes! Both of them!" She giggled.
"Fine!" I said, giggling with her.
I sighed.
I wish I could see Emily again.I toss the stone into the pond and smiled. It's been awhile since I've smiled, or seen Emily.
We used to stay up late on weekends just sitting on top of the roof watching the cars go by and watching the stars & moon.
We went up on the roof once and she sat on my lap and asked me,
"Bubby, do you believe in Angels?"
And I'd always say,
" Yes, Em. I do. They help work miracles everyday."
She smiled and hugged me and then told me that if and when she died, she wanted to be and Angel, too. She wanted to be a very important person when she died.
And help protect people.
Help work miracles.
Save people.
If only Emily could see me now...
