I walked down the hallway and stared curiously at the birthday decorations hung all along it. Pushing open the dining room doors I entered to a chorus of ‘happy birthday’. I looked at Derek, Ambrose, Adrian and Ellie, the maid, with disgust.
Ambrose sat in the corner with a small smile, Adrian gave me an apologetic look but Derek and Ellie beamed at me, and gestured to a pile of presents on the table.
“You're finally back.” I said to Ambrose, ignoring the presents. He chuckled, stood and gave me a hug.
“Megan,” He sighed, “Why do you detest this so much?”
“’Cause it’s a load of bull…”
“Megan.” Ellie scolded.
“It is! This is only celebrating the day you found me, when I lost my memories. Remember!”
“Megan, it’s been like seven years, get over it.” sighed Adrian.
“Like you can talk. You have a dad, you know who you are!”
“Oh! So I’m the enemy now just because I have a family?”
“I never said that! I just you of all people would know me and how much this hurts.” I gestured the room and the presents. “But I guess not.”
“That was harsh.” whispered Ambrose.
“Get off me.” I said storming out of the room.

I sat at the keyboard staring blankly. I hate when I lose my temper, I just end up saying things I don’t mean.
The door opened and Adrian walked out onto our secret balcony.
“You don’t have to be so mean. Dad is only trying to make you smile.”
“He should stop trying then.”
“That’s a bit harsh.”
I stood up. “If all you’re going to do is lecture me, I’m leaving.”
“We’re only trying to help.”
“I know.” I sighed, leaving. Adrian persistently followed.
“Then talk to me.”
“Why should I?”
“’Cause you always do. It makes you feel better.”
I wanted to get to my room but Adrian grabbed my arm and looked at me with such sad eyes.
“I hate it when you do that.”
“I know.” He beamed. “It’s good I figured out your weak spot.”
“Megan?” Ambrose walked down the hall towards us and exchanged a scowl with Adrian, who gripped my arm tighter. “May I have a word?”
“Uh, okay. Adrian please, I’ll find you when we’re done.”
He glared, he cursed, he muttered but he left. I glanced at Ambrose.
“So?”
He tilted his head. “How come you never talk to me these days?”
“Uh. I don’t know. I just… don’t feel like you know me as well as you used too.” I looked up into his red eyes.
He leant forward suddenly and hugged me, my head resting, just, on his chest.
“Ambrose?” Derek’s voice carried down the hall. “Oh good, you found her.” He appeared at the end of the hall with Adrian. “Sorry to upset you before, dear but now I have some good news I wish to share with all of you. Come with me.
