I opened my eyes in to the sound of a creaking door. Pain hit me in short waves making it hard to concentrate on the worried voices traveling through the door of the infirmary.

"She's not... your son..."

"...Leave... slim chances..."

My eyes rolled around the bare, white room finally stopping to rest on the sleeping figure sitting next to my bed. I smiled as Adrian's eyes flickered in his sleep. His hand softly rested in mine and I squeezed it gently, gratefully.

The door squeaked open and Derek stepped in. He moved over to Adrian quietly.

"Don't." I whispered hoarsely. "Don't wake him."

Derek jumped and his eyes widened.

"Megan!" He breathed a sigh of relief. "Does your shoulder hurt?"

My shoulder? So that's what was causing me so much pain. I turned my head slowly and grimaced at my shoulder, the memories of Adrian's panicked face came back to me.

I nodded in response to Derek's question sending me into shivers of pain. My shoulder was heavily bandaged, a tiny bit of blood seeping through. Derek grabbed some painkillers and lifted my head. Helping me swallow them.

"Thank you." I said, my gaze returning to Adrian. "Where is Jake?"

"Who?" Derek paused and looked at me confused.

"Never mind." I whispered.

I had hoped he was here or that Derek knew who he was. But of course Derek didn't know, because then he would've known about my past and he wouldn't have lied to me. Ambrose I wasn't too sure about though. His actions in town made me suspicious, like he had known something all along.

"Ambrose is here." Derek said, as if he knew what I was thinking. "He wants to..."

"I don't want to see him." I interrupted. "Please, Derek. Let me rest."

Derek nodded and left the room. I heard him talking to someone outside, Ambrose probably.

I fell asleep instantly, which surprised me. Derek must've given me the sleeping painkillers.

"She was awake? How was she? Was she okay?" Adrian's concern made me smile.

"She was fine. In a little pain but fine. She seemed more concern about you then herself." Derek knew me so well. "You haven’t slept much."

"How could I when... I didn't know... if... if she..."

"You have so little faith in me, Adrian." I couldn't help saying.

My eyes opened to find Adrian leaning over me shocked but smiling.

"Megan!" He beamed.

"Hi there." I tried to sit up but Derek and Adrian ended up lifting me into a sitting position.

"How bad is it?" I asked through gritted teeth.

"You have a torn shoulder and two bruised ribs,” answered Derek.

I looked at him, "How bad?"

"The cut's all the way to the bone and we have to stich it. Your ribs aren't cracked but they're pretty fragile at the moment. You lost a lot of blood, we didn't know if you were going to make it." Derek said softly.

"You're a true fighter, Megan." Adrian said.

"Stitch it then, get it over with."

"Megan..." Derek hesitated.
