It was painful for about three seconds then it was just pressure on my neck but I could hear Adrian. Hear him drinking, hear it leaving my body and going into his.

He pulled his head away and hung it in shame. I pulled on a brave face.

"There, better?"

"You're unbelievable." I stepped back slightly shocked. "You have no idea what that could've done! I might not have been able to stop. I could've gone mad."

"But you didn't." I looked up at him through my fringe but he pulled away with a grimace. "Adrian."

"I'm a monster." He mumbled miserably.

"When?"

He turned back to me, "What?"

I looked him in the eye, seriously. "When were you bitten?"

"Five," He swallowed loudly. "when mother died."

"Before you were rescued." I said it matter of factly and he nodded.

He looked up at the trees like he was scared I would scream or run away from him.

"Okay, well I better get changed." I put on a smile.

I changed quietly in the dark into comfy jeans, a singlet and knitted jumper so I didn't wake Erica.

I walked the grounds seeing without really seeing.

'He must've felt so alone.' I thought. 'The one person I truly knew held the biggest secret on his shoulders.'

Unconsciously I kept returning to the stables.

Finally, giving up, I walked in to see my horse, Becka.

"Hey girl." I said before doubling over in pain.

A mangled body on the ground, her red hair sprawled across her face.

No! I don't want to see this.

A boy dragging me away.

"Not into the open." I whimpered.

"Megan, we need to go." No not a boy, the boy. His brown/blonde hair mattered with blood.

His voice comforted me.

This isn't real. This isn't happening.

"But mummy and daddy?" I ask.

"Watch out!" The boy screamed.

Vampire!

I sat up, gasping, and was covered in hay. Becka's big head looked down at me with intelligent, worried eyes.

"Megan! Megan!" I couldn't place the voice but Becka neighed in response.

I gritted my teeth, touching the scars on my stomach.

The vampire jumped at me, his red eyes glowing.

Blood! Blood! Blood!

"Is she okay?"

"I'm not sure."

"I found her screaming. I wouldn't have found her if Becka hadn't come barging through the boy's dorm gates.

"She's a good horse."

"Ambrose?" I whispered.

"He's not here, Megan." Derek said.

"Are you okay?" Adrian asked.

Blood!

"No." I groaned. "Not back, anything, anything. Please. Not that."

"What is she...?" Was all I heard before I blacked out, flashes of red the only thing interrupting the darkness of unconsciousness.

***

I woke to the sound of a piano. A beautiful song was being played and I cringed when there was a wrong note.

"Megan's better at this song." Adrian said frustration underlying his tone.

"I never knew you were this good,” exclaimed Derek applauding. "I always wondered what you two did up here. You're very talented son.

Adrian began again and hit the wrong notes again.

I frowned, "C not A." I mumbled.

"What Megan?" Adrian asked while Derek spluttered.

"C not A." I said louder.

He played the song slower but with the right notes, I smiled and sat up slowly, squinting in the sunlight.

"Told you it would wake her,” muttered Adrian as I winced trying to stand up.

I felt weak with a blinding headache but I wanted to get to the piano.

Falling against Adrian, I noticed the bandages on my arm.

"What?"

"You scratched yourself."

"Oh." I blocked all thoughts that could make my memories come back but I wasn't quick enough. My memories sucked me back under.
