Maybe it was her shyness and nerves, but Vanessa had these strange feeling in her stomach as she, so she had to wrapped her arm around Raphael arm and lean on him a little as they went in the back yard where more of his family was. She doesn't know why a sudden feeling of sadness and sickness came from.
“What's wrong?”, he whispered in her and she gave him a force smile, shaking her head. She felt a lump in her throat.
A German Shepard came up to them and lifted himself up onto Vanessa, big paws resting on her shoulder. She was surprised at the sudden attack, but the dogs started sniffing her, making her pet the big animal. She has never really dog fan, more like cats but her father was allergic to them.
“Whoa, Rocky, paws off.”, Raphael jokingly said as he helped his dogs off her because he had his attention on her and when he stuck his tongue out to lick her, but she pulled her head back, giving Raphael a lot saying that would be a bad idea if his wet tongue touched her.
But the whole time Raphael was introducing her to his family, Rocky was sniffing her and she waved back her when the dog was sniffing her butt, which her face was burning red when everyone started staring at her.
Suddenly she felt a sharp pinch like feeling and made a yelp sound, turning around to glare at the dog, “Did you just nip my butt?”
“What?”, Raphael chuckled, bending down and scratched his dog ear. “You're acting so weird Rocky, what's up? Huh? You think she's pretty, huh? So do I.”, he said and Rocky licked his face a little. She then felt his slobbery tongue and she gasp, wiping her hand across her shorts.
Someone came up beside her and she felt like puking before even turning to face Raphael father because of what he was holding on a tray, “Sorry about that, Rocky usually ignore our guest. He must find you really interesting.”
She turned to look up at him and forced a small smile. She looked down at the tray and saw four whole fish on his plate. She opened her mouth to speak but she felt like crying. The kind of crying you want to do when you just learned someone very close to you is dying or is dead. She couldn't hold back the sob as she brought her hand up to her mouth and she squeezed her eyes shut, turning around ran across the yard, crying into her hands.
She was only standing there for five seconds before she felt a big hand go on her arm, “Vanessa, what's wrong?”, Raphael asked and she forced herself to stop crying, but kept her head down with her eyes shut.
“I-I can't look at them.”, she said, choking on a sob.
“On who?”, he asked, sounding very confused.
“Them!”, she hissed as she whispered. “The fish's on that tray. They dead when I'm suppose to be protecting them, but yet they're here going on that damn grill.”
“Oooh.”, he said, understanding.
“I get this wave of sorrowing in me and I can't just help but cry.”, she said. “Ugh, they must think I'm an idiot now. I just embarrassed myself in front of them.”
Raphael pulled her into his chest and she face her cheek against him, listening to the sound of his heart beat, “They don't think you're an idiot—weird a little, but not an idiot. They don't know you could be dealing with something serious in you're life even if it is turning into a mermaid.”
“There's going to be more fish and other poor little sea creatures, aren't there?”, she ask and she knew her answer when Raphael didn't speak.
“This was a bad idea.”, he said. “We can go if you want—“
“No, I want to stay.”, she said as she pulled her head back to look up at him. “When is there going to be another chance to know you better then hear it from your family?”
