The Berg shook and rumbled as it landed, causing dust to fly up from the red earth outside of Denver. Y/N looked out the window in front of her, her E/C eyes recognising the familiar area. But just before the Berg fully landed, the H/C haired girl saw glimpses of the city beyond the high walls and glass dome that covered and protected the city. She was too busy staring in awe, that she didn't notice a tall, blond boy coming up behind her.
"Hey," Newt gently spoke, placing a hand on Y/N's shoulder, "you OK? Tired at all...?" Y/N turned around and gave him a small smile, before dropping it and then turning back to look outside.
"Yeah..." she replied, still seeming to be in a daze. "Just a little out of it still. What we went through, that...doesn't happen everyday."
"What do you mean?" Newt asked, his brows furrowing in confusion.
"I mean, that... You don't get told that you have the ability to save the entire human race, everyday, now do ya? That you have a responsibility to the remaining people of this earth to save them! It's just... a little overwhelming." Y/N looked down in shame, ashamed that she thought of saving the world as a hard task.
"You don't have a responsibility to anyone." Y/N lifted her head in surprise and turned to face Newt properly, shock and confusion evident on her face. He just stared at her and continued, "You don't have to do anything. Because you are in control, not Janson. Not W.I.C.K.E.D. Not Minho. Not Brenda. And not me... Only you."

Before Y/N could respond, Brenda called out to them, telling them it was time to leave for the city. Newt just nodded at Brenda before walking after her, leaving Y/N standing in shock for a second or two. But she shook it off quickly and followed the rest of the crew, following them into the cargo holding area, down the Berg's ramp, and onto the sandy and flat plain known as the Scorch.
"OK!" everyone turned to face Lawrence, listening now intently to his words. "From here, we move into the city. My squadron will go first, taking the targets with us. From then on, entries into the city will go by squadron. So it will go Mark's squadron, then Katherine's, then Chloe's, and finally Max's. Got it? Good, let's go." Once he was finished, Lawrence turned and pointed his arm forward, signalling his squadron to start forward. Newt and Y/N were pushed up the front near Lawrence and Minho, 'Probably to just keep us in their sights.'

As the group approached the surrounding wall, Y/N's keen, E/C eyes spotted an entrance in the wall. But there seemed to be a closed door, 'Probably locked,' and a man standing in front of it. Y/N, Newt, Minho and the rest of the group walked up to the entrance at the wall, and Lawrence greeted the man that stood in front of the tunnel entrance. The man was quite old, his shaggy, white beard and dull eyes giving away his age. He wore a blue, security uniform, wrinkled but still holding some pride and authority. But Y/N noticed the wrinkles on his face and arms, and the scars, scratches and scabs that littered his wrinkled, tanned skin. 'Those show his experience...' Y/N thought sadly, 'I can't imagine what he has gone through to have gained those horrible battle scars.' Before she knew it, Y/N was being pushed forward by Minho, and in front of the old man. The H/C haired Glader looked up at him and gave him a quizzical look, silently asking him what was happening. He smiled down at her and said, "Don't be afraid, young missy. I'm just going to test if you have the Flare or not, OK?" But he didn't give her any time to answer before waving a scanner over her face, in her eye, and quickly pricking her S/C skin with a needle.

Y/N winced at this, but the pain only lasted for a moment. The old man took the needle out and placed the sample of blood he collected into some sort of scanner. The E/C eyed girl waited anxiously to see the result, not sure why she was nervous. 'I know I'm Immune, why am I nervous?' Y/N asked herself, trying to regain her composure. But as the scanner showed that she was disease-free, and the old man allowed her passage through the tunnel to the inside of Denver, she realised she wasn't nervous for herself. 'It's Newt I'm worried about...'

The H/C haired Glader waited patiently in the waiting room, a room that was the destination of the tunnel and the entry to Denver. One by one, Lawrence's squadron members exited the tunnel, but none of which were Newt. Y/N started to panic, what if it hadn't worked? That the Cure was only able to the stop the Flare temporarily? That it wasn't enough to save him? That she wasn't enough to save him...? But all her worries faded as she saw Minho and her precious Newt exit the tunnel, big smiles on their faces. Y/N couldn't help but smile brightly as she ran to hug them both. No words were needed to explain to the two boys as to her actions. They, too, were relieved and overjoyed for Newt's miracle, nothing could show how grateful they both were for that. And for Y/N. So the trio just embraced each other as the last members of the squadron exited the tunnel and awaited Lawrence's next instructions.
