17. Maze Rescue

The four Gladers were running through the halls of the facility, their minds only set on one thing: get to the Munies. Y/N was out in front leading the other three boys behind there, as she had memorised the trail to the Munies that had been marked by Ava Paige on a map. Y/N's heart rate began to escalate quickly, and it wasn't because of the running. The path was easy to follow, for sure. But it was just the destination that scared the living daylights out of her.

~Flashback~

"How are we supposed to find these Munies anyway?" Minho asked with a frustrated sigh. "If we're gonna rescue them, we can't just go looking around the place just hoping they'll pop out somewhere along the way." Y/N held up the map that had been left with the note addressed to her. The boys saw that it had a circled section on it, and then three different paths that led to different locations. The longest route had an arrow pointing to words that read 'Munies' location'. The other two routes were labelled 'Flat Trans Exit' and 'Right Arm Entrance'.

"Ava told me that the Flat Trans will take us to a new place; somewhere far away from this all, so that's where we'll go." Y/N stated with a hard voice. "We'll get the Munies from wherever they're being held, and head for the Flat Trans. We'll pick up our friends and any Right Arm members who want to come along the way. So let's get going."

And with that, the four turned to leave. But before they even left the room, Y/N stopped mid stride in shock and horror. Newt slightly bumped into her, causing her to stumble forward.
"Hey Love, what's the matter?" Newt asked gently, placing his hand on Y/N's right shoulder in a silent demand for an answer. The E/C eyed girl spun around slowly to face her friends, lifting her gaze to meet theirs and said in a shaky voice, "The Munies... th-they're in the Maze."

~Present~

After that, the events seemed to blur together. The boys became shocked, then they were determined and started to run for the Maze. Although none of them showed it, Y/N knew that they were all anxious about going back into their old home. As much as they all had good memories of the place, it was nothing compared to the horrid things they remember witnessing and feeling within the dreaded place. 'But I have to push that all aside if we want any chance of making it out.' Y/N convinced herself, shaking her head slightly as she ran around another corner. The corridor led to a small opening that lead outside to a big, empty courtyard. Or so they thought.

Once Y/N stepped through the opening, she immediately felt a strong hand grip her arm and pull her away. The grip was like steel, and so caused her to cry out in pain. Suddenly, she felt herself trapped between an arm and a chest, facing her friends. The H/C haired Glader then felt a cool object being pressed against her neck slightly, and she guessed it was a knife.
"Y/N!" Newt cried out, suddenly stopping when he saw her in that position. Y/N couldn't see who her attacker was, but she could guess from the way the boys were glaring daggers at him.
"Janson." Thomas spat with venom, his fist clenching and unclenching with anger.

"Thomas," Janson sharply replied. Y/N heard something different within his voice; it wasn't the usual calm and collected tone they always heard. It now had a hint of... fear.
"Let her go, Ratman..." Minho growled, his hands already reaching for his running knives that he always had on him, "before I cut you up so that you're unrecognisable." The man in white just laughed, but still, there was that edge of fear and, now, panic.
"And why would I do that? She's the Cure, after all. I can't just let her go." Janson's grip tighten and he pressed the knife further into Y/N's neck when the three boys stepped forward to attack. "Ah ah! We don't want our precious little Cure hurt now, do we? Yeah, that's right... now lower your weapons, that's it." The boys had no choice, Janson would hurt Y/N otherwise, so they all unstrapped their weapons, which were just mainly their running knives and pistols. Minho had a shotgun attached to his back (Which he had picked up after they rescued Y/N), and reluctantly unstrapped it and placed it on the ground before kicking it away.
