James opened the file slowly after Chrysalis passed it over to him. He gasped upon seeing it, though I had no idea why. He seemed more than a little bit shocked about it, though, which worried me a little bit... What if it was something bad? Well, no matter what it was, it would definitely be bad for Anton and I's case...
"What is that?" the judge asked, clearly curious.
"This is a file of all of the pictures taken for ID cards down at the bank. The witness' picture is in here, but strangely enough... It looks nothing like the man standing before us!" James cried out.
"OBJECTION!"
"But the owner of the bank sent us the person who looked most like the one Detective Umber described, and we got the witness! How could the Sec Urity in the book and the Sec Urity here look nothing alike?!" I found myself crying out.
"OBJECTION!"
"The hair and eye colors look similar, sure, but that's not the main thing here. The one thing that sets the man in the book and the man here apart is their facial structures. Their builds appear to be similar, but their faces are extremely different, leading me to the fact that this man here... Is not Sec Urity, but rather, somebody impersonating the real Sec Urity!" James exclaimed.
"So this Sec Urity is only acting like the real Sec Urity?" the judge asked in confusion. "If that's the case... Then who is the real Sec Urity and why isn't he the one testifying before us now?"
"Yes. The real one can't be here for a reason that my partner brought up earlier," James declared.
"And what reason was that?" I asked, not understanding what he was implying.
"I said earlier that maybe the victim was the missing Sec Urity and that the culprit was somebody else," Chrysalis cut in. "I didn't think it was realistic at the time, but now... It might actually be the truth."
"HOLD IT!"
All eyes turned to Mr. Urity. He was gripping the witness stand and growling at the defense. "You think I'm not the real Sec Urity? Then who do you think I am?! You have to have some sort of proof as to who I really am if you want to make your stupid case!"
"Maybe... Uh... I actually have no idea," Chrysalis admitted sheepishly to James. Judging by the ghastly expression that had crossed his face, he was just as clueless as she was, and I figured that wasn't about to change anytime soon.
"Ha! You see?! The defense is merely spouting lies in an attempt to make their case! I suggest that you give them a penalty and a guilty verdict for the defendant to show them not to mess around in court!" Mr. Urity cried out, pointing to the defense team with a shaky finger. He didn't seem to be all that composed at being called an ultimate impersonation master.
"We have to think of something! If we can't pull ourselves together T is going to get found guilty!" Chrysalis exclaimed to James. He was staring down at the defense bench in a daze. Did he even hear what she was saying...? It didn't seem that way to me.
"Look at the defense. They can't even come up with any sort of idea. How ridiculous. Your Honor, the verdict, if you would please," Mr. Urity said with a prideful smirk.
"OBJECTION!"
Everybody glanced around the courtroom to see who had cried out. My eyes eventually fell on James, who had snapped out of his daze. "I wish to accuse this witness as the culprit of this murder as well as the thief who committed this crime!" he exclaimed.
"You think I'm a thief, an impersonator, and a murderer? That's quite the accusation coming from a tiny little boy. Run along and play with your little girlfriend," Mr. Urity said dismissively, pointing to Chrysalis as he said 'little girlfriend'.
"I'm not his girlfriend!" Chrysalis exclaimed.
At the exact same moment as Chrysalis' outburst, James cried out, "She's not my girlfriend!" to back her up. I felt relief flood me at his words. Not that I ever doubted him in the first place or anything like that...
"What evidence do you have to accuse the witness here?" the judge asked.
"Well, it seems that this man here was the one to arrest the defendant for the crimes. It seems a little bit odd that he would somehow be there to take her away for questioning, don't you think? In addition to that, he's been carrying around a knife as opposed to a gun, which is part of regular security guard uniform. That also seems to say that he's suspicious," James answered.
"That still doesn't show that I killed the victim," Mr. Urity taunted.
"We can still show that you did it with all of this evidence piled high up against you!" Chrysalis cut in, slamming her hands on the defense bench before her. A glare was shining harshly in her blue eyes as she gazed towards Mr. Urity.
"Then I dare you to show some proof. That is, if you have any," Mr. Urity said with a slight smirk. I had to admit, I wasn't the biggest fan of this guy. He was sort of like James, and since he seemed like a murder suspect... It clicked as James being a killer in my mind... I hated that...
"There's one more picture in this file Abilene gave me," Chrysalis told James quietly. "Maybe it will show something that could get this guy behind bars."
James nodded and began to flip to the back of the file, where he found a picture. He held it up with a prideful smirk. "This... This is the evidence that shows this man is guilty!"
It was a picture of the victim without his mask on.
And his facial structure was identical to that of Sec Urity's in the profile book.
