Twas the night time and we were resting. I was on night watch duty for two hours since I wasn't tired enough to go to bed. I looked up at the stars. The brightness from the millions of stars bounced off each other and turned the black night to a dark blue. I laid my head against the large rock behind me.
We were not far from the trail that we were traveling on. Thorin had made the decision that we get off the trail and find a resting place in the trees. After a small amount of walking we found a clearing that looked untouched. We set up camp and ate a delicious stew that Bifur had made. Thorin had put me in charge of the first night watch because he could tell I wasn't tired.I sat back and kept looking up at the stars wondering if Fili was looking at the same stars I was. I kept on wondering about him. If he died...no don't think that. They would keep him alive and try to sell him. I knew if that we kept up the pace that we were now that Fili would be sold by the time we caught up to the enslavers. If I were to only go off on my own maybe I could get to him before they sold him. We had collected some information from the townspeople that the enslavers usually held parties down at Little Lune and that's where they would have auctions. That was the only thing I knew and that was all I needed to know to fulfill a mission like this. Of course I would need to leave during the night watch if I were to go off on my own to rescue my older brother. It was a risky plan I had placed my mind. Of course I wouldn't do it tonight, I was too tired to do it.
"Kili go get some rest, I'll take the night watch," Thorin told me as he stood up. He rolled his shoulders and as he did he popped his joints. I gathered my bow and quiver from right next to me and walked over to my sleeping mat I had laid out. I laid down and looked at Thorin who was sitting on the rock I had rested my head against. He stared up at the stars. He was humming to himself and small decent song from my childhood. With his quiet humming I felt comforted and fell asleep.
"Goblins!"
I woke up by the shout. I grabbed my bow and quiver next to me. I stood up quickly at the danger. I loaded my bow with an arrow. I looked around me trying to spot the danger. I turned to Thorin who was armed and ready. I turned to the other five dwarves who were also armed for a battle.
"Where are they," I asked quietly. I moved around a bit to see movement in the trees. I pulled back string with the arrow aimed. I grinded my teeth back and forth, eager for the damn things to pop out.
"They are night crawlers. Their a rare breed of goblin, their smart and will find a weakness of yours. Be careful, they also have poisonous weapons," Thorin's informed all of us. I felt the danger risen as I waited. I needed my fighting skills to be precise and powerful. All of a sudden the goblins started coming out. They were ugly creatures with black eyes. They came squirming out of the safety of trees. I shot my first arrow and hit a goblin right in the head. I loaded my bow with an other and shot another goblin. I grabbed my sword and threw my bow over my shoulder. I threw my sword at the batch of goblins. My swordsmanship wasn't as good as Fili's ,but I was good enough. I turned my back to get the goblin coming out from my left side. I sliced a goblin's head off and moved back towards four other goblins. They were all looking behind me. I wanted to look behind me to see what they were looking at, but something told me not to. I moved quickly and sliced the four goblins stomachs with one movement of my sword. I then found out what the four goblins were looking at when I felt a sharp, deep pain in my shoulder. I looked back to find the goblin handling the dagger in my back. I stabbed him through the stomach. I then grabbed the dagger and pulled it out my shoulder causing me to scream in pain. I could feel eyes on me as I screamed. I threw the dagger on the floor and kept on fighting. Dwalin came to my aid to help fight the goblins. I looked at him and he looked back at me with concerned eyes. My shoulder was in an extreme amount of pain, but I knew if I let up my guard then the other dwarves would have to suffer. I ket slicing my sword towards the goblins that kept flooding out of the trees. My left arm was on fire and I was starting to weaken. I closed my eyes trying to find the strength and will to keep on fighting. I opened my eyes and kept on fighting. My vision began to weaken and saw black dots everywhere. I shook my head a bit to try to clear my thoughts. I began to fight the next swarm of goblins coming out of the trees. My fighting skills were weakening. The poison was taking place fast. I looked at Dwalin as he fiercely fought. I turned back towards the trees. I couldn't find my balance and because of this I fell back. Dwalin turned back at me with a concerning look. I tried to get up, but I just couldn't. I turned to One who was fighting off some goblins.
"Kili," Thorin shouted as he looked back at me. My vision began to double and instead of one Thorin I saw two. I kept shaking my head, but I just couldn't get my vision to clear up. I turned to Oin once again to try to find comfort, but Oin was still fighting off goblins. I looked back towards the many double trees to find three goblins coming for me. I slashed my sword through the air in front of me because I didn't know where the goblins exactly were. My stomach was now up in my throat and I felt the pressure to throw up. I lowered my head to the side and threw up on the dirt. I kept on throwing up. I heard an angry war hungry yell. I turned back after I threw up my lunch and supper. The goblins were now dead on the floor and Dwalin stood in front of me as to protect me. I held a soft pair of hands on my shoulder. I turned around to find Oin. A sudden feeling of comfort and sorrowness came over me. I wanted to wrap my arms around him and thank him for his aid. Instead of doing this I sat up and let him examine my shoulder. He got up and ran somewhere, maybe to his horse or something. He came back and began to dab my dagger wound, as he dabbed my wound I squirmed with much pain. I couldn't hold up my own weight anymore and I fell back on Oin. He rolled me over quickly and began to dab my wound again. I laid on my stomach and looked at my throw up. It smelt nasty. I then heard some shouts. I lifted my head quickly to see what was going on, but Oin shoved my head back down to the floor. He was doing something, but I didn't know what. I laid down and looked at my gross throw up.
"Kili, can you hear me," asked a familiar voice. I just kept staring at the throw up. I didn't want to answer, afraid I would probably throw up again. I heard some of them talking amongst themselves. I closed my eyes and fell asleep.
I woke up as the sun rays hit my face. I blocked my eyes with the shade of my hand. I groaned a bit and raised my head. I was in a back of an open wagon. I looked around me to see that we had been making much progress since last night. I sat up with help from the wagon sides. I looked at Dwalin who was riding his horse behind the wagon. I put my right hand over my bandaged shoulder.
"Thorin, Kili's awake," Dwalin said with a strong powerful voice. I looked up at the driver's seat of the wagon to find Thorin. He looked down at me and gave me a kind smile. This wasn't normal. He usually had a stern look about him. He stopped the wagon which caused the other five dwarves to stop. He got out of the driver's seat and jumped into the back with me. He kneeled down next to me and put his hand over my forehead. He then took his hand away.
"We were all afraid you weren't going to make it there for a minute. I'm glad you did, so I wouldn't have to face your mother's wrath," Thorin told me. I took the blanket off of my legs to make it seem like I was strong. I grabbed my shirt which was folded next to me. I put my shirt back on and looked at Thorin.
"I'm better now. You don't have to worry. Let's continue on our search for Fili," I replied at Thorin as I began to get up. I was stopped by Oin shouting. I turned to Oin as I lured down to a sitting position. Oin came to the edge of the wagon and threw me a bag. I caught the flying bag before it hit the floor. I opened up the small sack to find black pills. I looked back up at Oin and gave him a questionable look.
"Those are your pills that you will be needing to take for the next two weeks. If you don't take those pills then the poison will continue to spread throughout your blood. I highly suggest that you take one right now," Oin explained to me. I took a small pill from the sack and put it in my mouth. I choked down the awful tasting pill. Oin put his hands on his hips and looked satisfied. I looked back up at Thorin to see if I had his permission to get up.
"Our hunt for Fili was delayed by a day since you fell ill. We had to rush to a nearby town and make a few stops for those pills and new medical supplies. So, please Kili don't get into anymore trouble," Thorin threatened me as I stood back up. His threat was more like permission that I could help them along the quest again. I jumped off the wagon and went to my pony that was being led by Bifur's pony. I mounted on my pony and untied the lead rope off of the rear D-ring from Bifur's saddle. I kicked my pony and trotted past the wagon and Thorin. Thorin gave me a cold glare as I past him. I looked at the long trail in front of us which was mostly down hill.
We had lost one day because of me, but I could gain a day back by my speed. Just wait and see Uncle. In a matter of time you will consider me joining the group to travel to Erebor.
