Skyterriens ~The skies~

Chapter 5

There are screams and cries. The Infests coming in swarm feasting on our people.

"Sister, we must help them!" I cry

"There is no point." She reply.

The Infest coming closer and my sister vanish. I try to summon my wings, but they couldn't been summon. I have to run away. I take a deep breath and start to jump on rooftops. I see a swarm of Infests straight ahead. I get the knife out of my pocket and fight though the Infest. There are Infest flying in all direction. I swing my knife, slicing my ways through. Infests' blood splatter everywhere. When I see a path that is clear I dash through the Infest and continue to run. I keep running as fast as lightning. My life on the line, I'm sweating. Up ahead I see a big drop, this is where the row of buildings end. I look behind me and I see a swarm of angry Infest. The drop is 100 meters away. I start to panic.

"If I stop, I'll die. If I drop I'll die."

These thoughts run through my mind. 50 meters to the drop. I'm still haven't make up my mind. 40 meters, 30 meters, 20 meters, 10 meters, 5 meters. I decide to jump. Out of pure instinct I decide to jump. I close my eyes, I slide down the wall of the building to the ground. I open my eyes and I see I'm still living and breathing. I look up and I see the swarm of Infest coming down.

"This is no time to celebrate."

I dash away from the Infest. my heart pumping, adrenaline rushing. I don't actually feel exhausted. I feel like I can run for hours. The swarm is still chasing me. I see a fence, There is a hole under it. Big enough fro me to slide in. I prepare myself and slide. There is dust everywhere. I couldn't see the Infest. When the dust cloud settle. I see the Infest retreating.

"Yeah that's right. Fly away!"

I see my sister sitting on the cliff edge. She looks majestic sitting there as the sun sets. I shake my head. I walk angrily to my sister and I open my mouth, but she put her finger on my mouth.

"I know I just left you there."

I open my mouth to talk and she hush me again.

"Your really good at parkour, but I left because the military told me not to help you."

"WH...!"

She hush me again.

"The reason for that is unknown."

"Sis."

"Yes?"

I stare at her.

"Why couldn't I summon my wings, when I want to retreat from the Infest?"

She looks down apologetically.

"I might be the cause of that."

"What did you do to me?"

"Turn around."

I turn my back on her. She lift my shirt. I feel something from my back being detached. It didn't really hurt. I turn around and I see my wings in that device.

"What is my wings doing there? What is that device?" I question

"This aren't your wings. If it didn't hurt when I remove this device then these aren't yours. Try summoning your wings."

I summon my wings, there is a bright light. I feel powerful. I see my sister crying. I go and support her.

"What's wrong sis?" I ask

"Your wings are really beautiful." She whisper.

"DANIEL!"

Amelia pounce on me. I'm lying under her. She starts to cry. I feel her tears on my skin.

"Whats wrong?"

"I thought you were dead."

I support her as she keep crying.

"When I saw the Infest coming I was worried about you. I was looking everywhere for you. I saw lots of blood on the rooftops, And I tho..."

I put my finger of her lip.

"I wouldn't die just like that. All that training I been through made me stronger. Thank you for worrying about me." I whisper

"Please don't scare me like that ever again."

She smack me on my head. I nod.

"Daniel, what happen to your wings?"

My sister explain to Amelia that my wings were transplanted and the bat wings were not mine, but dead corpses of other wings.

"Why did you do that?" She question

I also am curious of why she and Calvin decide to do that. We both stare at my sister.

"The Infest can't sense your half blood energy, that mad scientist can't sense it too. Now I took your cover, you'll be attack everywhere."

"The fakes, were not allowing my true potential to show."

She nods. I see Amelia taking in this information. As the sun sets we all head back. When we reach the town square, I see a shadow. Suddenly a dart, fly pass me, I dodge it.

"Who are you! Show yourself!" I exclaim.

A man step out of the shadows, clapping. The man is tall, wearing a long white coat. I see rage on my sister's eyes. I look at the man fiercely.

"Skylar, you don't have to look at your uncle like that."

"UNCLE?!" I question.

"She didn't tell you about me."

"Tsk." My sister look away in disgust.

"Don't click your tounge at me."

"Um, did you shoot that dart." I ask.

He stop smiling and now I have the leverage.

"Yes." he mumble.

"Why would you shoot a dart at your nephew?"

"Because , I'm that mad scientist that cause million of deaths of your kind. You'll be my next test subject."

He laughs.

I'm looking at the person who killed my kind. He is related to me. I feel disgusted.

"I'm also the murderer of you parents."

He laughs.

"How could you kill your own family, you monster!"

"I'm not the monster here, you are.!'

He points at me.

I look down, I'm not a monster I'm just different right?

"But I'll make you accepted by the others. You would be a hero. Just come with me."

I shook my head. I look at him with anger in my eyes. I see my sister and Amelia walking away. I see the terrified look on Amelia. Looking at her makes me snap back to my senses.

"I'll never come with you." I reply.

I suddenly feel a dart on my neck and everything gone dark.
