Everybody heard a dog bark
Cries of two boys went unheard
Talons pried the fingers off their clenched hands
Whips cracked through the air
Dead eyes stared on -
Shame
Disgrace
Fire roared in the night
A dog howled in protest
Nobody heard the dog bark
