Here is the winning entry in Week 5's Drabble contest that was held at the Storytellers-Saloon.
A story of an unborn girl
Her smile spread across the face,
as she exited the hospital lot
'Finally! A baby girl at last!'
She waited for her husband
excited to share the joy
But when came the time,
to announce the good news,
her hopes were deeply shattered
when she heard him say Abort!
We don't need a girl
To add to the burden
Bare a boy, who'll bring
fortunes to the house.
Her voice trembled as she made the call
Fixing an appointment to break her heart
The tears stood testimony to her broken spirit
as she mourned the loss of her unborn girl.
The above entry is inspired by the countless number of real stories in India, where female foeticide is very prevalent. Despite of the various measures undertaken by the state and central government, this issue continues to exist. And we as an individual should work towards eradicating it. Save the girl child. They are as important as others. Stop others from killing the child in the womb itself. A single effort on your part will contribute to a larger goal for sure. Thanks (:
