Chapter 10: Stealth Sleeping at it's finest

Poolhouse, 1 am

"I'm trying to sleep here" I shouted dashing toward the bed and girding myself for the battle I knew was about to come."Do you mind?"

The beast thundered closer to the bedroom, the floor trembling under his feet. "What the hell, do you think you're doing?"

I sat up on the edge of the bed trying to look like I had just woken up and not eavesdropping. "Obviously, not sleeping. What's up with you anyway? Barging in here in the middle of the night.... And you shouldn't curse."

"How long have you been here?"

I stretched and yawned trying to put on a cool act. It would have been easier to pull off if I had been wearing something more impressive than my smiley face tie dye t-shirt. Maybe something along the lines of a pirate skull. "Do you have to yell so loud? Your disturbing the neighboring tree animals."

"How long?"

"I'm not sure but they've probably been there before you were even born."

"I'm talking about you."

"Oh. I've been here for a while. Where do you think I've been staying all this while?"

"I didn't think about it at all. You know why? Because I don't give a damn. I want you out of here."

"I will. Tomorrow." Or forever if this is what it takes to avoid Odette and fair princess duties.

"Wrong. This is my poolhouse and you're leaving right now."

"You promised your father that you'd make sure I felt at home. And you're either a man who stands by his word or not. Frankly, I'm beggining to think not."

His eyebrows slammed together. "It's my poolhouse and you're trespassing."

"You see it your way and I see it mine. This is America and we're entitled to our own opinions."

"Wrong. This is Mission Hill and my opinion is the only one that counts."

That statement was a lot truer than I cared to acknowledge. "You are such an ass." I stormed out of the poolhouse.

"You have a shift at the beach, tomorrow after driver's ed." he called out.

I grabbed my bag and flipped him the finger as I went out the door.

--------------------

Things to bring to the beach:

1. Sunscreen SPF 1000000 (Mission Hill has taught me that unlike Leah Bronson, Stephanie Lucerne and the rest of the town's population, I do not turn into the shade of melted caramel when exposed to sunlight. Instead I become the main course, 'Boiled a la lobster'.)

2. Umbrella

3. A floater ( In case the Beast decides to throw me in the water and will then look with bafflement as I float away from harm's way instead of sinking like a rock.)

4. Towel

5. Flip flops
