With large explosive words, the door burst open, wood splitting and Xavier charged in, stopping dead at the sight of her cowering in the corner of the bathroom sink, pointing at the mirror with a trembling finger.
"If it is a damn spider, you are paying for the door," he growled, looking around, seeing nothing out of place.
"Someone," she gulped for breathes, "was watching me." She trembled, clutching at the towels. He leaned toward the window above the bath, seeing nothing.
"I see no-one," he noted dryly, turning back to her, who was shivering in the gathered towels, eyes wide as saucers. Obviously she did, crouching down in front of her. "You cannot sit in the damp and the cold like that." He looked around, grabbing the nearest item of clothing, a white bathrobe from behind the door and eased around her shoulders.
That he pulled around her as he coaxed her out, and up into his arms, carring her out, placing her on one of the two beds. He tried to pull the towels free to no avail. "Amanda," he growled, receiving darting, nervous eyes. Sitting down at her side, he eased her closer to him. "Okay, we would do this another way, one arm at a time." He opened one side of the robe. Her arm snake through, and back around herself, holding the robe closely and did the same with the other arm. She wrapped the robe tightly around her as he pulled the towel free then gathered her against him, rubbing her back.
"I am here to protect you Amanda, you are safe." She placed a robed clenched fist against her lips, warming under his touch. She closed her eyes that snapped open at the creepy, beady ones that had been watching her. She shuddered, and buried herself deeper into Caleb as he grabbed the towel and started drying her hair.
"Jodie," she whispered. "I'm Jodie," she reinforced.
"No, you are not. You're Amanda Hunter, princess to a throne. I bet, he has put you up to this, forcing his will upon you. Do not be afraid of him Amanda." She blinked and nodded.
"Of course, sorry," she said meekly. Sighing, she shifted in closer, seeking his warmth, and he let her. Gently he rubbed her back until she calmed in his arms.
Soon he had her in bed, tucked up, keeping warm, and turned on the television, keeping her mind focused on other things, even ordered in food to be delivered. Fast take away food, something he barely touched. Not his usual food, but didn't want to leave her, while he went looking for a healthier choice. That he doubted he would have found any, out here in the outskirts of nowhere.
She barely touched her food either as she huddled under the sheets. It was the quietest he had ever seen her, and didn't like it. She looked across with wide eyes. "Are you alright?" She nodded. "Are you watching that?" She shook her head. "Let's call it night, then, and get some sleep, then we can leave early." She smiled and seemed pleased with that. He switched off the television and the lights, plunging them into darkness.
Shrugged off his own robe, he settled under the sheets and listened to her breathing, until he was sure she was asleep by the shallow breathing. His own eyes began to drift closed. It had been a long drive, and then turned around to drive out. He should have stayed a night in the town, but wanted to get home as soon as possible.
"Caleb?" So much for her being asleep.
"Hmm," came lazily.
"We are leaving tomorrow?" She asked again.
Sighing, he ran a hand over his face. "Yes, now go to sleep," he ordered, hearing rustling of the sheets and a deep sigh. Throwing back the covers, he crossed over, and lifted her covers and slid in, gathering her into his arms, and she wasn't arguing, taking his hand, holding against her chest, trembling. His hold tightened, not realising how deeply the whole incident had affected her. "Can you sleep now?" She nodded. He felt her relax, and noticed how easily she fitted perfectly into his arms.
