"Miss Amanda Hunter, I presume?"
Startled, a young woman, who sat at a desk, facing her lawyer and friend, rose and turned around and grabbed at the desk for support. At the size of the giant, dark, dangerous looking man, who was standing in the doorway, all in black. He filled the whole doorway, or felt like it. His presence was all consuming.
She swallowed hard. "Caleb?" She asked in awe. This was her bodyguard! By his stance, and dark glasses that hid his eyes, he looked far from friendly. A no-nonsense sort of guy. Sighing, she turned to Mark, an average redhead, who had also stood, watching her, not the man in the doorway.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" He asked, concerned.
"I have no choice. Anyway, who in the right mind would take that one on," she pointed behind her then circled the desk and hugged her friend. "I'd be fine," she promised. He was the only one who knew the whole truth. She pulled back to straighten her shoulders. She had a role to play. She was Miss Amanda Hunter. Placing a smile on her lips, she turned, and went across to hold out her hand, after all, he was here for her protection.
He just stood there, then pulled down his sunglasses by a finger to run hard, shrewd dark eyes over her slender form dressed in jeans, and light shirt. Dark hair pulled back in a French plait all the way down her back. She shivered, dropping her hand. Shaking his dark head, he walked passed her towards the lawyer, shoving his sunglasses on top of his head, disappearing into his thick, black, wavy hair. Same colouring.
"It seems you need to teach your client the first rules of security," he noted dryly, sounding unimpressed.
Mark's cheeks went bright red. "Of course. May I see your credentials?"
"At least that is something," he mumbled under his breath, removing a folder that he flipped open, showing his identity as Caleb Omar Sayyid Al-Hakem to snap shut, and placed away. He looked over his shoulder towards his ward. "How old is she? I was expecting someone much older."
Jodie Spencer aka Amanda Hunter knew she looked much younger than she was, but really there was no need for such rudeness. "Sixteen, sir," she smiled sweetly, shaking her head at Mark, whose lips parted as Caleb turned his attention back to the lawyer.
Crossing her arms, she leaned against the office wall, running eyes over his very expensive European casual look. A black, V-neck jumper that clung to his masculine figure, with very tight, black pants that highlighted everything about him that was male. Broad shoulders, broad back, tapering down to lean hips. That was called inconspicuous? He stood out like a sore thumb. A very cute sore thumb. And such a cute, tight butt. Her eyes rose and stared into dark, shrewd eyes.
"Sorry, wasn't listening," she smiled at his cocked brow, although her cheeks reddened at being caught out.
He strode across, stopped in front of her and tilted her chin back with a finger, his eyes burning into her. "You will listen to everything I say and will do as you're told, understand me Amanda Hunter." Her blue eyes flared and lips tightened though nodded, since she had no choice in the matter. "Good little princess." He tapped her nose, and swung back to the lawyer. "Miss Hunter is now in my care, there will be no further communication between you two. Do I make myself clear?" Mark nodded. "Good, come on little princess, I am already running behind schedule." He swung back without warning, catching her in the action of poking out of her tongue at his back. Mark shook his head at her, taking his seat. Once more feeling very sorry for the bodyguard. He had no idea what he has let himself in for.
Well and truly caught out, Jodie chuckled, throwing him a playful punch at his masculine arm with an 'oops'. He took hold of her upper arm and marched her out as he dropped his sunglasses back into place. Now she was in trouble. "Sorry," she offered, receiving a rumbling growl as they left the office building onto the street of the small country town. Her eyes rested on the black sports Corvette and moaned. Did the man have any idea how to mingle without waving a red flag, saying hello, stranger in town.
