"I've survived on life support, I'm stronger than I give myself credit for. These conditions only cure when we prepare ourselves for war."

The first thing I heard was loud purring near my ear. I knew it was Mamoru so I tried to reach up and pet his silk-like fur but my arms felt like dead weight. My whole body did.
Aren't I dead? Why is Mamoru here? Did Mamoru...?
That thought alone was enough for me to snap my eyes open. I was welcomed by the sight of a tan ceiling. I had to adjust my eyes to the light by squinting for a moment but quickly recovered from it and pushed myself to sit up. Halfway up, a sharp pain shot through my stomach making me sharply gasp and fall back onto my elbows.
"Rinai! You're awake!" I looked up to see Sakura on the other side of the room, sitting up from her bed. She jumped up and ran over to me, pulling me into a hug.
I groaned in pain from my stomach. "Haruno, that hurts." I hissed out, making her let go.
I was completely shocked to see her eyes watered up. "We all thought you were dead... I can't believe it, we were all so worried..."
I tilted my head. Why is Sakura about to cry? Why was she worried? As far as I've known, we haven't been the best of friends... Like she was the peanut butter to my jelly, when she was really the oil to my water.
Mm Fiji water...
"How long have I been out?" I asked snapping out of my thoughts and honestly curious cause I was obviously not dead.
"About two days." Then she made a face like she just thought of something. "I have to tell Kakashi-sensei!" With that, she jumped up and ran out of the room.
I glanced around to see the sun through the window was just coming up. A meow dragged my attention to my side, seeing Mamoru looking up at me with his yellow eyes, seemingly happy.
"Hey there," I petted him from head to tail a few times before sighing. "Glad you didn't get hurt."
I don't know what I would've done if he was hurt- or killed. I'd lose it. And why am I in a room with Sakura?
"WHAT?! SHE'S AWAKE?! I'M GOING RIGHT NOW, BELIEVE IT!"
"Shut up, you loser. It's six in the morning."
"ARRGGH, I'LL DEAL WITH YOU LATER SASUKE!"
I couldn't mistake those two for anyone else. Naruto's loudness and Sasuke's annoyed voice were just one of a kind. I had no doubt that the one running through the hallway like a drunken rhino on steroids was Naruto and was correct when he bursted into the room, still in his pajama's.
How does one small boy make so much noise?
Naruto and I stared at each other before I saw his cheeks tint pink. I raised my brow in question but then saw where he was looking. I glanced down at my torso to see it wrapped in bandages from my chest down to the bottom of my stomach. Near the middle was a slight red stain.
I looked back up at Naruto. "What?"
He shook his head and walked in nervously. He sat in front of me cross legged and was silent for a moment.
"Why...?" He finally asked, avoiding eye contact with me.
I blinked at him, surprised. I've never seen Naruto so... serious. It kind of scared me.
