Jack was weeping. He could feel the heat and smell the burning flesh deep in his soul. He didn’t need human sensory organs to deliver the tangible proof of Mason’s crime. His crime, he realised. Mason was in his body. This was really happening. This wasn’t an illusion. Much of what he had experienced since his ‘death’ possessed an illusory quality. He knew it was real. It was just experience of a different order.
Earthly experiences had the full frontal assault of crude reality. Jack felt a cold blanket of desolation creeping over him. A spiritual numbness had clasped him in a clammy grip. He was on the verge of giving up hope. He was stranded here. How long for he did not know. Would he expire or transmogrify in some way when his human body died? Mason wouldn’t keep it long that was for sure. His destiny was clear for all to see. He had bought a one-way ticket to disaster.
