CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
The first that Lee Simpson knew about it was when he heard a woman screaming. There was nothing unusual about that. People were always screaming in this place. If you couldn’t scream here, where could you scream? Lee wriggled his toes comfortably by the bars of an electric fire. The security office was not exactly well situated to handle an emergency. It was way over on the east side of the building. Lee was happy with that. That suited him fine. Not many people bothered you here. And as for trouble, mostly it was obnoxious guys in reception and usually the sight of the uniform and the practised stance of the ex-cop were enough to quell most outbreaks of violence.
