Im A What?

It was Monday 23rd July. A normal day for the Dursley family. Carly lay in her makeshift bed in the small cupboard under the stairs. She watched through the grate in the door as people walked past her 'room'. She usually went to school but because of the previous Saturdays events, she was not allowed to come out.

She still had pain in her ribs and legs from the lashing she got from her uncle. It had been Dudley's birthday and Mrs.Figg wasn't able to look after Carly. The Dursleys, Carly and three of Dudley's friends had all piled into the car and went to the zoo.

It was a normal and fun day for Carly. It was so exciting and new. Dudley had tried to wake a snake but left knowing it was no use. Carly had stayed and watched the snake, but to her horror and suprise she had conversed with the snake and it led to the snake getting out and Dudley getting stuck in the enclosure with two of the three friends.

Vernon had been beyond furious and lashed Carly with his belt numerous times before confining her to the cupboard where she had now been since late Saturday. With no food or drink.

She listened as Dudley and Uncle Vernon left for school and work, this just left Aunt Petunia in the house. Drilling up the courage, Carly decided to bang on the cupboard door and get Petunias attention.

"Aunt Petunia?" She said whilst knocking. She heard footsteps and then the lounge door.

"What?" She sneered.

"Can I come out please? I'm hungry and I have chores to do." She added the chores but to persuade her aunt some more.

"I'll let you out for chores and a drink. Maybe some bread if you do it well enough." Petunia snootily told her as she un bolted the bolt on the door. The pulled it open and pulled Carly out and towards the kitchen.

"Wash the dishes, clothes and weed the garden!" Petunia instructed and then she left the kitchen.

Carly smiled to herself as she went over to the sink. She quickly got a cup from the cupboard and made herself a drink of water as she filled the sink for the washing up.

She gulped down the water and was glad for the refreshment as she got in with washing the breakfast plates and pans. She dried up all of the pans, plates and glasses and put them away. She eyes the bread hungrily and decided to take the risk. She shoved her had into the bread bin and took a slice as she shoved it in her mouth and ate it. She did that with three pieces and then rushed up the stairs to get the laundry.

It only took her about 10 minutes to sort the laundry out and load up the washing machine. Whilst that was on she decided to weed the garden.

She had weeded the patio area and moved on to clean up the bushes. When she felt they were all done, she went and got the laundry and hung it out to dry in the summer sun. Petunia was still watching silly day time tv and it was only about midday so Carly quickly had another drink, washed, dried and put away the glass.

She lay down on the grass in the back garden to soak up the sun. But she didn't realise she had fallen asleep.

She was sharply woken up as Vernon dragged her inside by her hair and shouted obscenities at her about being outside. She winced at the pain but didn't show it. She was roughly shoved in the cupboard and locked in, where she fell asleep again.

The next day was uneventful as Carly lay in her 'room' and wasted away the hours being ignored by anyone else.

However, the next day, she was ordered to make breakfast. Dudley had now finished school for summer and she had to make everyone breakfast on the hot Wednesday morning. Petunia and Vernon had a coffee while Dudley enjoyed a hot chocolate as they waited for their breakfast.
