coming home

You quickly climbed into the big black SUV, as someone on your boyfriend Shawns team waited to pull away. Shawn was coming home from his shows in Australia, it was 2:30 am and you were on your way to pick him up. You could've driven but shawn's team offered to drive, so you agreed, especially because it was such an un-godly hour in the morning and the airport was more than an hour and a half away. You were hoping Shawn wouldn't be exhausted so you guys could talk on the way home, you were oddly wired, ecstatic he was coming home, but you were 90% sure he would crash once he sat down in the back seat.
You soon arrived, the driver dropped you off so you could wait for shawn while he drove around and waited for you guys in the parking lot. You walked, shivering, through the airport trying to find baggage claim. You wore a big sweater, leggings, and your torn up ugg boots. Your hair was sloppily pulled into a ponytail. You didn't care how you looked because you were at the airport, who were you trying to impress? you already had a boyfriend. You sat down on a bench where they indicated shawns plane would get out. Small loads of people slowly straggled by, each time your anxious eyes scanning the groups of tired travelers for shawn.
Eventually, you saw him coming down the escalator. You could tell by the way he was holding his body that he was tried, jet lag killing him. His body was slumped, weighed down by his suitcase, his backpack, a guitar, and the need for sleep. He looked up and down from his phone each time scanning the floor below him looking for you. His tired eyes met yours and he perked up, a smile spread across his face. He looked eager to get off the escalator, like a child to anxious to wait in line. You started to walk quickly towards him, his eyes getting brighter as you get closer.
He reaches the bottom, you run up to him, he sets down his stuff, tightly hugging you. His body relaxes in your arms.  "I missed you" you mumbled into his neck. "I missed you too, love" he whispered back. "It's good to have you back" you said pulling away staring into he chocolate brown eyes, the bags underneath them clearly showing. He smiles. You text the driver that you are ready. He grabs his guitar and you roll his suitcase, each lacing your fingers of your free hands together.
He slides his guitar in the trunk following his suitcase. You climb back into the SUV, Shawn sliding in after you.  You guys talk a little but you know Shawn is practically ready to pass out, he's just staying awake for you. Your conversation slowly dies out as you sit in a comfortable silence. You turn to Shawn, his eyes slowly falling, as he blinks, his body instinctively trying to stay awake. He seems so relaxed it's as if his body melts into the chair. His head slowly falls, but perks back up again, his eyebrows raising, as if trying to open his eyes but not quite getting the job done. Every now and then he tries to sit up half awake, his mind almost  trying to convince himself he's awake. He continues to nod up and down, in and out of sleep until finally, you see his head fall back against the head rest, his mouth slightly open releasing the tiniest snores. The car hit a bump and Shawn jolted awake. His body tensed and he briefly looked around. He then went back into his resting position. Once he was asleep again he slowly fell to the side, his head resting in your shoulder. He rested there peacefully, you glanced at him again before dozing off yourself. "Boy I'm glad your home" you thought.
