Defeating the holiday traffic, I drove up the driveway to my townhouse at almost seven. I put the car in park as I noticed Matt pulling up next to my car and cutting the motor off, dressed in a very fitted black tee, dark carpenter jeans and beige Timberland boots.
I took notice of how his shirt accented the curves of his chest and arm muscles and blushed.
“You got here fast.” I told him as he opened my driver’s side door, watching me fidget with my bag's strap that managed to get caught on the seat lever.
“I know shortcuts around the traffic,” he stated, pulling off the black and yellow helmet, chuckling at me as he put it on the seat of the bike, next to a second identical helmet. “Need some help?”
“Got it.” The damn strap finally untangled. I shut the Acura's engine off and pulled the keys from the ignition as I started to climb out of the car. “Come in while I get changed.”
Matt nodded and followed me up the walkway and I unlocked front door. “I’ll be down in a minute.” I threw my stuff down on the sofa and jogged up the stairs to my room. With quickness, I kicked off my heels and tore off my work clothes and rummaged through my dresser for a pair of stone washed jeans and a black short-sleeved top. I found my black Nikes under my bed and slid my feet into them as I found a hair tie on the dresser and pulled my hair into a ponytail. Descending downstairs, I found Matt looking though my DVD’s on my entertainment center. He snapped up and turned to me when he heard my footsteps. “All the times I’ve been here, I never noticed the amount of paranormal movies in your collection. We should watch them some time. I wouldn't mind learning something that interests you so much.”
“Really? Wow, never thought I would hear that from someone. You must be one in a hand full of people who didn't think I was a freak.”
“You're not a freak, you're extraordinary, and I bet you could make a believer out of me.”
“Right.”
“I’m being honest. I wish you wouldn't feel that way about yourself.” Matt said coyly. “You ready?”
“Yes, I am.”
“You’re going like that?” Matt looked me up and down and pointed at my shirt. “You may want to bring a light jacket. It may be warm out, but it gets chilly on a bike.”
“Um, Okay.” I went to the closet and pulled out my gray Old Navy fleece hoodie and held it up.
“See?” I then walked over to my handbag.
“Uh...” Matt stopped my hand as I reached for my purse. A split second of an awkward pause followed as we stood there, and he dropped his hands to his sides. “Just take what you need.”
“I...I wasn't thinking.” I stammered. I fished around the bag for some cash and my driver’s license and turned my back to Matt so I could tuck them into my bra.
He picked up my keys from the coffee table and removed my silver house key. “I’ll put this with my keys.”
“Thanks. With my luck, I'd be camping in the yard tonight.”
“No, I’d rent out my sofa.”
“Thanks.”
“Time to go. Ladies first.” Matt extended his arm and bowed as I walked past him and he trailed behind me, closing and locking the door before we went to the Honda cycle. Matt grabbed one of the helmets and held it out to me.
I put it on, tucking my hair into the helmet that smelled like him, when finally, I was able to distinguish his scent after all this time, sweet and clean, similar to the smell of the air before a summer rain shower. I breathed it in deeply, and through a muffled voice, I asked, “How do I look?”
“Adorable.” Matt climbed onto the bike and started the engine and instructed me over the noise, pointing at different parts of the bike. “Step up on here and swing your leg around and put your butt here and your other foot here.” I bobbled my head up and down and did as he told me, feeling the vibration of the bike under me as Matt helped hoist me up.
Matt continued, “Now, wrap your arms around my waist and lean into me.” Again, I did as he told me, and I took advantage of snuggling into him, wrapping my arms around his body as we took off.
I had to admit, riding a motorcycle was unlike anything I had ever experienced; it was exhilarating, and being with Matt made the ride even more exciting. After a short time, I felt secure enough to briefly break my grip from around Matt to raise my arms over my head to feel the rush of wind all around me.
Matt eventually stopped in front of a colonial cobblestone fronted house. It was humongous with a wrap-around porch that sat on the waterfront of the Delaware River. In the back of the property stood much smaller replica of the bigger cobblestone building with garage.
“Since we were in the area, and you've never been over, I figured I'd show you where I grew up. I live in the apartment over the garage now. ”
“Matt, it is positively gorgeous.”
“Wanna go up and see my place?”
So, I know that I had this whole “don't want to ruin what we have” motto, but secretly, Matt's sex appeal was screaming at me, and I wasn't sure if I'd be able to refrain
from wanting to stay the night. “Nah, another time.”
His tone was as if he was sealing a deal. “l'll hold you to that.”
