By the time we returned to my townhouse, the rain had gotten heavier and Matt and I quickly ran for cover under the awning of my front porch. I couldn't help but notice the beads of water trickling from his tousled hair, down the biceps of his arms. “Why don’t you come in and dry off a little?”
“I’ll be fine.” Matt caught my fixed glare and looked back at me. “See you Sunday?” With his keys in hand, he removed mine and gave it to me.
“Yup.”
Matt’s dimples appeared at the corners of his mouth and caught my attention again. We stood there, soaking wet, just looking at one another silently as we stood on the porch until he pounced me. So much for resistance. I wrapped my arms around his neck and pressed into him, our bodies melting together and lips frantically kissing. Matt lifted me up, holding my legs around his waist and pushed me up against my front door. I was seconds away from dragging him inside and having my way with him, that is, until my conscience kicked in. The devil in me was saying, "Yes, keep going!" and jabbing its little pitchfork into my brain as the angel perched on my shoulder begged and pleaded to stop things from going any further.
The better half of reasoning took control and I tore my lips away from Matt’s, pushing him back and jumping down as I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand.
“I’m sorry, I gotta go, Matt.” I quickly turned, my hands shaking with adrenaline as I tried to unlock the door and entered the doorway, turning to look at Matt, who was completely stoic and wordless. Guiltily, I shut the door, leaving him in the rain.
