I swallowed. My short cuffed hair whispered around my ears as I pulled into the driveway of the fimilar white house of Kyle Fitzjearld.
I parked and pulled my keys out. My mind was buzzing and my heart pounding as I opened the car door and stepped out, my hands trembling. I marched up to the door, and I watched myself as a five year old come up and knock on the bronze colored door. I shook my head and stepped up onto the door step, knocking with my sweaty white hands. I waited until the door opened and in the doorway stood Kyle. I smiled, looking at his new features. It has been 18 years and he....looks different. The right side of his brown hair was prickly short and his left side flipped over his head. His been eyes were covered with square glasses and his tan face was smiling.

"Misty!" Kyle yelled opening the screen door and pulling me inside with one arm.

His voice was lower now but still unusually high for a man. I licked my lips looking around. The place hadn't changed a bit. The living room to my right, the kitchen to my left, the staircase to the basement was ahead, next to the staircase leading upwards.

"Welcome, welcome!" Kyle seemed a bit over pumped.

He led me into the living room and I took a seat rubbing my hands together. This was so weird. Before I could stop myself these words flew out,

"How's your dad?"

I almost slapped my hand to my mouth. Kyle's face dampened, his brightness darkened and his smile lowered.

"I'll show you." He said in a fake happy mood.

I followed him out of the living room, passed the staircases and into the kitchen and Jeremy sat there. His wife was spooning food into his lopsided mouth. His hands were up and flailing downwards. His eyes were facing upwards permanently and his face looked....disorented.
I glanced at his forehead. The skin above his eye brows had been Streached to cover the Chunk missing from his brain and head. Hair wasn't growing there. It was weird to stare so I sat down.

"Hi there!" I smiled and said cheerfully.

Jeremy waved both his hands and made a weird spassum noise. I smiled.
I swallowed and turned to Kyle who was standing next to me.
His father opened his mouth but waited, nothing happened. No noise.
I ignored that and asked him,

"How are you?"

His gave me A thumbs up and made a choking noise again. I stood up. Jeremy wife winked at me and I wandered back  towards the staircase.

"Sorry about that." Kyle said.

"No it's fine." I shrugged.

Kyle smiled sadly at me and thundered up the stairs. I followed in pursuit holding back tears.
