"Isabelle, have you ever heard of The Werewolf Committee?" Xavier asks eyeing me cautiously, not completely sold on my naivety.
"N-no." I say shaking my head, werewolf committee? Sounds like something out of a movie.
Xavier shakes his head a small smile on his face, "unbelievable, I've never met a wolf who hasn't heard of The Werewolf Committee."
"S-sorry?" I turn red staring at the ground, never met a wolf like me then? How can I possibly know so little?
Brushing off my words Xavier launches into what feels like an over-practiced explanation. "The Werewolf Committee is an elite group of werewolves from all walks of life. Some are alpha's some luna's there are even a few rogues in the mix."
"R-rogues?" I ask shaking slightly at the thought of them.
"We'll get to them today if you stop interrupting." Xavier answers curtly as if he's used to being interrupted.
"I interrupted once!" I cry, instantly covering my mouth. Did I just say that?
"Twice." Xavier says his voice harsh but after taking one look at my face it softens ever so slightly.
"Fine I'll stop." I fold my arms shaking slightly, shouldn't he be screaming at me?
"Thank you Isabelle." Xavier sighs a small smile playing on his face. "As I was saying The Werwolf Committee is an elite group of werewolves that help keep the peace between werewolves and other supernatural species."
"There a-." I begin but instantly shut up with one look from Xavier.
"We'll get to it." Xavier pauses slightly, "are you following?"
"Y-yes."
"Obviously the power that comes with being apart of such an elusive group of people lures in a lot of the wrong type of people. Alphas, rogues, lunas, omegas, anyone desperate enough for power is able to appeal to The Werewolf Committee's high court which is three of the eldest members. They are able to then turn away the person appealing or give them a chance to join the rankings. Appeals are very rare and being given a spot on the committee is even more so."
"H-how do you j-join then?"
"You don't. Like I said before the committee has ranking, they have wolves in all different packs across the world watching, kind of like recruitment wolves. If they see someone who might qualify they then notify their elders who send someone higher up to observe this person for a period of time. After that they are transported to meet someone who is part of the 'Weresile.' Which is seven of the most powerful and influential people in The Werewolf Committee who are in charge of everyone below them as well as approving new members and placing them within the rankings. The only people above them are of course the elders."
"H-how do you know all of this?"
"Didn't you think it was weird how Dexter tested you the way he did? Showing you the doll, asking you all those questions?"
"Yes, he said it's to help his brother." I say coldly, my words have an odd effect on Xavier as he shifts closer to me.
"He said his brother? Those specific words?" Xavier murmurs, his mind clearly on other things.
"Yes," I hesitate slightly, he never said Theo once, huh.
"Isabelle, why did you stop stuttering?" Xavier says his mind returning to him as his green eyes meet mine.
"U-u-um."
"Anyway, Dexter questioned you the way he did for me."
"For you?!" I cry my anger returning, what kind of sick conspiracy is this?
"Calm down, Belle not specifically me but for the committee."
"Did you just call me Belle?" I ask my eyes burning into Xavier.
"I'm sorry, force of habit." He mumbles.
"Force of habit?" I repeat confused, we've never spoken before.
"The committee wanted to find out if you were legitimate. I mean any Alpha can smell your blood but only if your intentions were pure would you ever be able to fulfill your role."
"My r-role?" I say my anger immediately replaced by curiosity.
"As my luna." Xavier replies.
I stare at Xavier, my mind running. Did he just as my luna? Why does everyone want me to be their luna? I've been an omega my entire life.
"W-why?" I ask staring at the ground. Waiting for Xavier to burst out into laughter revealing this entire thing has just been some sick joke.
"Be-, Isabelle, you are a true luna."
I look up studying Xavier's green eyes, he doesn't flinch. "W-what do you m-mean?" I stutter, a true luna?
"A true luna is she-wolf who is born to lead."
I jolt back, born to lead? That's what everyone's been saying. "B-born to l-lead?" I stutter looking anywhere but Xavier.
His steady green eyes stay trained on my every move. "A long time ago it was an inherited trait, passed down through generations. However, that caused an uprising as many Alpha's became fixated on she-wolves that were true lunas. Stealing them away from their mates to strengthen their own pack."
Xavier pauses for a moment, "a war raged for many years. That is how the Werewolf Committee came to be. Many wolves believed it was unfair for some to be 'born to lead,' while others could never compete. This lead to almost all the wolves that were apart of leading bloodlines to be massacred. The werewolf committee was formed in order to prevent further fighting between packs."
"H-how am I b-born to l-lead? I d-don't think it's in my b-blood." I stutter out wondering how anyone could come to such a conclusion. My father was only a Beta, my mother held no position before mating my father.
"There are two ways she-wolves become true lunas. The first is by blood, which you are correct in thinking you are not. The second is when the she-wolf has lived through extraordinary circumstances and the moon goddess believes they are worthy of being a leader."
His words catch my attention, extraordinary circumstances.
"You are one of those rare wolves, that's why despite being an omega in your original pack the Alpha still wanted you as his luna."
"B-but how did they k-know?"
"As Alphas we can sense it. The moon goddess gave you the power to be an incredible luna because of the strength you have shown throughout your life. Despite the constant abuse you still kept hope and managed to escape your captors. That takes a lot of courage Isabelle."
I open my mouth to respond, my heart pounding, no one has ever called me courageous. Before I can utter a word Xavier stops me, "that is enough questions for today, get some rest and we will talk more in the morning. Your bedroom is down the hallway to the right. There are clothes in the draws and an adjoining bathroom, I will cook us dinner in an hour."
I nod my head, slowly turning towards the hall my head spining with information.
"Oh and Isabelle, don't bother trying to escape." Xavier voice is soft but I can hear how serious he is, shaking slightly I make a beeline for my room.
