Luke
I sat on the balcony of our hotel room, a cigarette hanging from my lips. As I inhaled, I cringed. I hated smoking, but I needed something to keep my mind off of Jess. She was never going to come back, so I knew I should just give up. But it wasn't that easy when it was someone you truly loved, when it was someone who could turn your darkest days bright again. But I knew I had to let her go, as hard as it was.
Just then, I saw a car pull into a parking space at the front, and a girl with lilac hair stepped out. She turned this way to enter the building, and I felt my breath catch in my throat. It was Jess. She was here. I didn't know what to do. I couldn't even seem to move. I just sat there watching her until she was completely out of view.
It wasn't until I heard her knock on the door, that I moved to answer it. I grabbed the door handle, my hand shaking violently. As I swung open the door, I saw her for what seemed like the very first time. She was stunning. She wasn't the "girly girl in a dress and heels" stunning. She was my kind of stunning, with her dyed hair, band shirts and ripped black jeans. She was my kind of perfect.
"Can I come in?" She asked after a few moments of me staring at her. I nodded, not trusting myself to speak, and I moved out of the way so she could come in. She seated herself on the edge of one of the beds, and looked up at me. "How are you?" She asked, concern clouding her gorgeous blue eyes.
"I'm alright. How are you?" That was a lie. I really wasn't alright. Not without Jess, at least.
"I'm not gonna lie, Luke. I feel like shit." She shrugged. And in that moment, all I wanted to do was wrap my arms around her and make her feel safe. But I knew I couldn't. Not yet.
"I'm sorry." I said.
"I know." She replied.
I looked at her. Really looked at her. She looked tired. She looked worn out, weak. The happiness seemed to be vacant from her eyes. But it didn't make her any less beautiful in my eyes.
"I came here to apologize." She started.
"There's nothing to apologize for, Jess. You just don't feel the same, and that's okay." I shrugged, as if it were no big deal.
"You know that Tweet you just posted about an hour ago?" She asked. I nodded. "Look at your first comment."
I pulled out my phone, unlocked it, and clicked on the Twitter app. When it loaded, I went to my latest tweet and scrolled down to my first comment, which seemed to take hours due to how many comments there were already. When I saw Jess' username, my heart started to race, and then I saw her message: Me too.
I looked up at Jess. "You mean it?" My voice was weak, and it cracked in several places.
She nodded. "I really do." She looked at the ground, trying to hide her blush.
I moved over to her and lifted her chin. "I love you, Jess. I love you more than anything, and I never want to lose you again. You're my everything." I said, and then I kissed her.
I finally had my Jess back, and I knew I would keep her close until the day I died. I was never going to let her go again. I wasn't going to make the same stupid mistakes a second time.
And I was going to love Jess with my whole heart.
She was mine, and I was hers. We were meant for each other, and we will never let each other go again.
We'll safety pin the pieces of
Our broken hearts back together
THE END
