Gangster
Chapter Sixteen

June 23, 2014

Beyoncé sat in her office, over thinking everything. It had been a week since her last spat with her husband, and it was clear that neither of them would find a common ground. Shawn was sticking to his guns about healing properly alone. He wouldn't talk with her unless it was about their daughter or their home back in Maryland. Bey had been trying to see if selling their home was the best decision, but Shawn made it clear that it was best that they had a backup plan. Sadly for him, Bey made it known that Michael knew about the property and that it wasn't a safe-house anymore.

Anytime she wanted to talk about something else, Shawn would either leave altogether or just tune her out for the sake of being there for his daughter. The frustration she harbored was unsettling to her soul. Never in a million years did she think that she would be stuck in an unhappy marriage like her mother did for years. Yes, Tina loved Mathew with her entire being, but it was clear that she was there for the children. She wanted her babies to grow up in a family unit, neglecting the fact that she deserved happiness outside of that. Her children were currently examples of how that wasn't the best decision.

"Bey?" Kelly asked softly as she entered the office. It was slowly becoming like old times with Kelly and Beyoncé. The two women were slowly working on helping Bey start back up her company. With so many ideas running through her mind, she wasn't sure where to begin. She knew that designing was the first step, but she desperately wanted her old crew back.

"Yeah?" Bey questioned, snapping out of her own thoughts.

Kelly smiled a bit and entered the office fully with her iPad in tow. Kelly was a busy woman these days. She was still planning her wedding while trying to help Bey. As a friend, Bey was doing the best she could to be there for Kelly and her wedding, but it was becoming harder now that she having trouble in her own marriage.

"Did you seek out a lawyer?" Her tone was cautious. She didn't need to step into the personal territory, but it was hard when she had control over Bey's emails.

Bey sat her pen down and released a deep breath. "Yes," she answered.

"Why?"

"Are you asking me as my best friend or as my assistant?"

"As your best friend. I know what type of lawyer he is. Is everything okay?"

Bey laid back in her chair and pondered how she should tell her best friend. "Shawn and I have not been speaking much. I haven't shared a lot of what has happened with you, because I've been trying to process it myself. But, there was, of course, cheating on both ends and a shooting."

"A shooting!" She exclaimed. "He shot you?"

Bey chuckled a bit. "No, Kelly. I shot him. I'm not proud of shooting my husband at all, but it was an accident. The issue is that neither of us know how to come to a common ground. We're doing excellent with co-parenting Sut, but I want more. I want my husband. I need my husband. But if my husband doesn't want to come to a resolution quickly, then I'm prepared to divorce."

"So soon?" Kelly asked with disbelief.

"My marriage didn't just start falling apart yesterday, Kelly. Shawn and I just decided to one day just up and get married. We had heat coming from both sides of our families and then decided to run away together. I gave birth to twins and my son died. My husband was cheating on me way before my son died and still continued to cheat on me after my son died. So no, this wasn't soon enough."
