Gangster
Chapter EighteenJuly 7, 2014
"Shawn, no!" Bey scolded him as she watched her husband pack a bag. Sutton could be found on her hip, watching her parents argue about God knows what. One minute they were having a nice breakfast of pancakes, eggs, and bacon, and the next, the two were racing upstairs and arguing. Lately, they had been trying really hard to keep up a front for their daughter. They would love one another while she was around and any time an argument was about to brew, one of them would walk away. But the minute Sutton closed her eyes for rest, it was on and popping.
Today, however, Bey couldn't just walk away after the bomb her husband dropped. Ever since her confession about Antoine, he hadn't said anything about it. Bey didn't think he forgave her or anything, she simply thought he wanted to get over it and let the past be the past. Sadly, Shawn had other plans.
"What do you mean, no?" Shawn looked at her ludicrously. "Did I stop you from confronting Nicki?"
"You didn't know I was confronting her!" Bey yelled back at him as she began throwing his clothes back out of the bag. He wasn't listening to her. "And I surely didn't confront her over you."
"Well," Shawn replied before putting his black shirt back into the bag, "you and I are clearly different. Can you take Sutton out?"
Bey looked at their daughter and immediately felt bad. When Shawn dropped the bomb on her that he was traveling to Maryland to confront Antoine, he immediately left the table. The only thing Bey could think to do was to run after him, but she didn't want to leave Sutton downstairs alone, fearing that she would begin to cry. Walking out of the room reluctantly, Bey took Sutton to her room and sat her down in the middle. She made sure that Sutton was occupied and safe before walking back to her room.
Shawn released a deep breath the minute he saw her enter back. He knew that telling her wouldn't have gone as planned, but he truly didn't care. His mind was made up the minute he booked the flight back to Maryland. Not only was going to confront Antoine, he was going to check on their property. Bey was hell bent on selling it, so he needed to make sure their valuables would be handled properly.
"You can't stop me," Shawn told her.
"Does he know?" Bey asked him. "Does Antoine know you're coming to him?"
Shawn shook his head honestly. "I don't see the point of warning him. Do you?"
"He knows our lifestyle, Shawn. What if you scare him?"
Shawn laughed hard. "Good. You really think I care about whether or not I scare his ass?"
"You haven't even yelled at me for sleeping with him. I'm your wife!"
"What's the fuckin' point?" Shawn yelled at her. "You're not going to take responsibility for the shit! We've put on this fuckin' act for our daughter and quite frankly, I don't see how."
"What do you mean? It's cause we love our daughter."
"I can love my daughter and not be around you. It's been how long since you dropped that bomb? You still haven't uttered an apology for your actions. You just walk around here like there's not an issue."
Bey shifted her attention to their bed. She couldn't help but notice that she would fall asleep with Shawn in the bed, but when she woke up, he was nowhere to be found in the room. "Is that why you haven't been sleeping in the bed?"
Shawn looked at their bed for a moment before shrugging his shoulders. In his mind, he couldn't sleep in the same bed with the assumption that it was where she had sex. Nicki had only been in their home once and they never had sex there. They either had sex at her place or a hotel. Bey, on the other hand, went to someone that was closer and clearly more comfortable with sleeping in another man's bed.
