Chapter Twenty Eight

September 8, 2014

Everything happened quickly. The cops swarmed the place. The paramedics repeatedly questioned her, but she had been stuck in a trance. Her eyes remained on the dead body just across the room from where she was. She had spent years hoping to see that dead body, yet they covered it from her. She watched them minutes ago when they finally covered his body to protect the dead.

He didn't deserve protection. He didn't deserve to be shielded from scrutiny.

"Ma'am," the female officer gently spoke. She had just come over after two males had tried their luck with her. She was a mute, but her facial expressions spoke volumes.

The woman breathed out before clearing her throat. "Mrs. Carter."

"I am not a fucking Carter," Beyoncé immediately snapped with anger. She refused to be called by the last name. Granted, she has married into the family, but she was on a mission to kill the family off once and for all. Anyone with such a horrid last name deserved to be punished for what they had all allowed.

Silence filled the room as everyone stopped in their tracks to finally hear what she had to say. Everyone had watched as the officers had tried to get her to speak for over thirty minutes. While it was normal for a person to not want to speak after being abused, this was different. While no one wanted to say it, they all knew who she was. They knew what had possibly transpired here, but they wanted to hear it from her.

"My name is Beyoncé Giselle Knowles. Period." The woman didn't say a word. She only nodded her head to give Beyoncé the chance to say more.

"His name is Michael Carter," Beyoncé spoke softly. Her eyes veered over to the body that was now being prepped to be transferred out of the mansion. "I'm sure you've heard of the name. If you haven't, you've either lived under a rock or you're not from around here."

"I'm actually not from around here," the woman confessed. "I just started working here a month ago, but everyone here seems to know something that I don't."

Bey cracked a small smile, wincing in the process due to her cracked lips. "Because they do know something."

"Well, Ms. Knowles, can you let me in on it?"

Bey looked at her for a moment. Was she ready to finally confess everything to the law? Was she finally ready to close this chapter of her life and move on to her next mission? Michael was only part one of the mission, but he was the biggest part. Her next mission involved Shawn Corey Carter.

"Tell me. What do you think happened?"

The woman shifted her weight to her right foot. She took a moment to look around the scene of the crime. "From the looks of you, I can tell that you have been here for quite some time. You've lost a significant amount of weight, you kind of smell, and you look battered and bruised. This isn't your house, so I'm assuming you've possibly either been in an abusive relationship with this man or you've been captured. It's clear from the damage of him and his ultimate fate that either way, you were fed up and fought back."

Tears filled her eyes as she listened to her words. "Two years ago, that man broke into my home and raped me. He recorded the entire thing and distributed it to the streets. People laughed at me. They said that I deserved it, because I was the Knowles girl. No one came to my defense except truly close friends and family. At the time, I was dating his older brother. Even he had on blinders about the entire thing."
