Love the Way You Lie
Chapter Twenty Four

September 1, 2014

Her mind raced and raced on the possibilities. What was he up to? Was he taking her daughter away from her? Was he protecting her from the greatest danger? She went blank and seemed to be running on adrenaline and anger as she jumped back into the driver's side of the black SUV and took off. Not once did she give Clifford time to react to her sudden movements, but he found himself in his very own SUV trailing her.

There was no need of figuring out the pilot information. Wherever Shawn was going, someone had to know. He had to have told someone that he was planning on changing the plan. The only person that she could think of was his father, Carter. Carter had made it more than clear that he would be on Shawn's side in the matters at hand. Truthfully, Bey felt that he would choose any of his sons over her. He had the right to do so.

Her phone was ringing off the chain as she drove quickly through the New York streets. To avoid traffic, she took all of the dangerous back roads, not caring of the crazy looks she received from walking pedestrians. Her eyes glanced down at her phone and noted that it was only Cliff calling her. He was probably looking for information.

An excruciatingly long ride later, Beyoncé found herself before the Carter mansion. She eyed what seemed like a palace for a moment before immediately jumping out of her SUV. She could hear another car door slam and groaned. His persistence annoys her at times.

"What are you doing?" Clifford questioned her, already knowing the answer.

"I'm looking for answers!" Bey replied. "That man in there knows something and God knows I'll kill him if he plotted with Shawn."

"You're going to kill Carter?" Cliff asked with disbelief. He had never heard anyone make a formal threat toward the man on his property. She clearly wasn't in her right mind if she thought that was going to happen.

The guards granted her immediate access, knowing her affiliations with Shawn. Had she not been married to the man, she wouldn't have gotten any further. Carter met her at the mansion doors with a frown on his face. He donned another black suit that had her shaking her head. Did the man know what normal clothes was?

"Beyoncé? What a...pleasant surprise."

"Cut the shit, Carter," Bey replied. "You have information that I need."

Carter frowned and diverted his attention to Clifford. The younger man looked as if he wanted to be anywhere but here at the moment. It was clear that he was allowing Bey to make the moves and Carter had always disapproved of that. While he didn't feel as strongly as Michael did on the matter, it was clear that no one was telling Bey when she needed to sit down and actually use her brain. Her emotions alone could start a deadly war.

"About Michael?" Carter questioned. "I haven't seen —"

"Your other son." She clenched her fists by her sides. Carter noticed the motion and only raised an eyebrow at her.

"Come in." He stepped out of the way and allowed her into his home. He shot Clifford an angered look for he felt it were his fault.

"What is this nonsense you're talking about, Beyoncé? Shawn left under your watch this morning, correct?"

She shook her head whilst angrily pacing the floor. "He was supposed to be under my watch and Clifford's. He was supposed to use the same pilot that I used many times, but at the last minute, Shawn switched it up."

Carter stuck his hands into the pockets of his slacks and furrowed his eyebrows. "What do you mean he switched it up?"

"He went to my pilot and told him to refund my money and that he was going with another company. I don't know another person that does shit like this."
