The Buckets lived a happy life. Joe worked in Willy Wonka's Chocolate factory. Mr. Bucket had the unfortunate job of twisting toothpaste in a toothpaste factory. It was a bland job, standing there, getting a hand cramp. It wasn't very good pay, but out supported the family enough, to buy cabbages at the local farmers market.
Every day when it was time for lunch or dinner, they would either have, leftover, or fresh cabbage soup. It was just water and cut up cabbages. It was bland, but it kept them from starving. Joe's job paid in chocolate bars, one for every 3 hours. He usually came home with 3 bars every day.
Virginia Bucket had been practically living in the bathroom for the past few days. James thought it a stomach bug. He brought her water and crackers. He held her hair back, and even stayed home from work, just to make sure she was okay.
"James!" she yelled. "I feel horrible." Virginia was crying. James hated to see his wife cry.
"Virginia, I'm taking you to the doctor." Surprisingly, she went willingly. As they walked she held a plastic bag.
"You have to go to work when I get there. Promise." She said softly. Jane's sighed.
"Are you sure, you'll be alright?" He asked, concerned for his wife's safety. She nodded her head.
"I'll be fine." She croaked. They walked to the doctors in silence. When they got to the door, James kissed his wife, softly on the forehead, and left. She walked into the cold waiting room.
The floors of hard white tiles had few scuff marks. The walls were a pale yellow color.
After a few minutes, the doctor came into the room.
"Virginia Bucket?" She questioned. Virginia stood up and walked to the doctor.
"Come with me." The doctor said. She lead her to a room, which had the same floors, and wall color as the waiting room.
"I am Dr. Joanna Mohr, please undress, and put on this robe and knock when you are done. Joanna left the room. Virginia undressed and put on the thin paper robe, and knocked on the door. Dr. Mohr reentered the room.
"Sit on the table." She asked. Virginia sat down. It was cold. Dr. Mohr sat in her chair and pulled out a clipboard.
"So what are your symptoms?" Dr. Mohr asked. Virginia pondered.
"I'm tired all of the time, and I've had horrible nausea. We think it's a stomach bug, but we're not sure." She explained. Dr. Mohr sat back and wrote on her clipboard before replying.
"Have you had your monthly bleeding recently?" She inquired. Virginia traced her thoughts back, to two weeks ago, when she was supposed to bleed.
"No, no I haven't." She replied. "I was supposed to, two weeks ago. What does this mean?" She asked, frightened.
Dr. Mohr smiled.
"Well, all the symptoms point to one thing." She smiled. "You, my dear, are expecting." Virginia, thoughts muddled, asked,
"What?""You, Virginia Bucket, are with child, and going to have a baby."
