Virginia woke up, reluctantly. James had to poke and prod her.
"Gin, you have to wake up." He groaned. "If you don't, my mom is going to cook, and then we'll all die."
It is true, Josephine's cooking had killed someone. Though it wasn't a real person. It had been James' imaginary friend, Tony. He choked to death on it, supposedly. James didn't allow her to cook after that. Neither did he eat any food prepared by her, only his father could cook.
Her cooking also wasn't the tastiest. She tried way too hard to turn simple foods, fancy. Pancakes made to look like lace, all burned. Pizza with hot chili sauce, too hot to handle. Peanut butter and jelly, with homemade blackberry jam, too sweet.
Virginia rolled over, being careful not to squish "baby". "Baby" still didn't have a name, for they didn't know the sex. She was five months along.
Her back ached horribly, not even James' massages helped. There was almost always a constant groan coming out of her mouth.
"Ug, fine." She sighed. She tried to force herself to get up but, to no avail. "James," she moaned. "Help me," she moaned, reaching out her arms. James sighed.
"Fine," he groaned. Virginia rolled over.
"Fine!" she huffed. "If you don't want to help your wife, then you're not getting your breakfast." If you saw James' reaction through the window, you would've thought that she said the most horrible, offensive thing in the world.
"Gin, why would you threaten me that way? Why?" As he asked that, his voice cracking on the last why. James quickly forced tears out of his eyes. "Gin, please, make me breakfast," he pleaded in the saddest whisper he could muster. Virginia rolled over to meet his blue eyes, her own hazel ones filled with glistening tears.
"I'm sorry James," she whimpered as though her heart was breaking. James immediately felt guilty, his eyes grew wide and mouth fell open.
"Oh, Gin, I'm sorry, please don't cry," he pleaded. "Please." Virginia gazed at him.
"I'm sorry, my emotions are everywhere." She responded, wiping away her tears. "I'll make you breakfast, what do you want?" James smiled and put on the most thoughtful face he could.
"I would like some oatmeal, please." He stated his words as though he was a small child, asking for food. Virginia couldn't help but smile. He was a grown man after all.
"James, for goodness sake, you are an adult man, you should be able to make your own breakfast," she laughed. "Go out, and buy some oatmeal, and I will show you how to make it, okay?" James nodded, still smiling. He leaped toward the door in pure excitement
"Okay Gin, I'm off!" He called on his way out the door.
Not even a few seconds had passed, when no one other than Margerie Gloop, burst through the door.
"Virginia, we're going out," Margerie Gloop commanded and proceeded to drag Virginia out with her.
"Margerie! What are you doing?" Virginia shouted. Margerie let go of her arm and put on a serious face.
"Gin, I'm pregnant, and that means that I'm going to have a child. A small infant in which I will have to be the caretaker of. I won't get to go out with you anymore, no more wild nights, no more fun. All I have left is restless nights filled with the horrendous shrieks. I just want one more day out with my girlfriend, before I have to throw my life away."
She looked so serious about it, Virginia just couldn't say no.
"Okay, let's do it," she agreed. The two pregnant women walked all the way across town until they made it to Fairway Park. They sat on the large fountain, shaped like a bowl, in the center of the park. , The water spewed from the center, like a flower.
