~Leo’s POV~

I stare at her in awe, three minutes ago she shut the door in my face to keep me from seeing her tears, dragged me into her cabin, and put on full battle armor. She’s shy and apprehensive but strong and bold at the same time. She balances it all and I have no idea how she does it. It almost seems like she’s fighting between two halves. I can’t tell if I stay because I’m intrigued or… something else.

“I want to know if I can trust you.”

“Uhh, not to question or anything but shouldn’t you learn if you can trust a person before you possibly put your life at risk?”

“Ah, but where’s the fun in that?” She smiles jokingly.

“Okay, well what happens if you know, something happens to you or me?”

She looks at me and her joking tone turns serious.

“I guess you’ll just have to trust that I won’t let that happen, and I’ll trust that you won’t let anything happen to me” She turns and reaches for the door, “So you got armor at bunker 9?”

~Rubee’s POV~

I look over my shoulder and see Leo standing there staring at me dumbfounded. Am I really that hard to follow? “Come on” I say turning back to the door, mostly because I can’t look at the adorably stupid look on his face any longer.

“Uh, where should I put the salad?” I can’t help the smile that comes to my face. It soon turns a mile wide, but I don’t let him see. I can’t, not until I know I can trust him.

“A mini adventure” I say turning the handle to the back door and stride out. To my satisfaction he follows directly behind me.

“Where are we going?” He asks salad in hand, gods he’s cute, his caramel brown hair and matching eyes that grow darker and stronger in the sunset, Snap out of it Rubee, don’t show weakness. For the first time in forever I tell myself to shut up and this time I actually listen.

“Were gonna mess with an Aphrodite girl that crushed my little sisters dreams.” I state, Clara was only eight and still learning exactly what it means to be a child of Nemesis, but unlike the others she listened to me, she cared that people were being mean to her, and so did I. I was not going to let her become like the rest of them… us.

“As long as it’s not Piper, I’m in. Although I don’t think Piper would do something like that in the first place. What exactly did this person do in the first place?” Leo says catching up and matching my strides, he’s about half a head taller than me and it takes a while for him to match my rhythm.

“My sister Clara was talking to a little boy from the Apollo cabin, and she strode up, took him by the wrist and pulled him aside. Then loudly stated that little girls like her are nasty evil people and he should never trust someone like her.” I could feel my cheeks get hot with anger upon reciting the cruel words, I turn abruptly which surprised Leo and almost cost me another outfit.

“She’s eight Leo, eight years old, I’m not letting her turn out like the rest of them. She will not turn out like me, not if I can help it.”

“What’s wrong with you?” He asks. I look down.

“Maybe I’ll tell you eventually. Look, she’s in there,” I point to the girls shower stall around back of the public bathrooms. “Drew always goes to this stall every day after dinner to make out with some guy from the Ares cabin, cliché if you ask me but whatever, her choice.”

“Oh, should we really do this? Won’t you feel bad, I mean Drew deserves what’s coming to her no doubt, but why not be the better person?” He says it so convincingly.
