~Rubee’s POV~
I sit on my bed with my leg bouncing nervously. We’re about to leave and I’m starting to seriously rethink this plan of attack, what if Leo ends up not going, what if I trip and everyone laughs, what if I spill something on Piper’s dress. I know she told me it was mine now but I don’t think I’m going to keep it. I don’t know where else I’d wear it. I look down at my nails Piper had done earlier, they have a red French tip with black and silver swirls. I stop myself before I pick off the polish.
I hear footsteps coming down the hall and one of the older kid’s head pops through the door.
“You coming Rubee?” Right at that moment Ryden walks in through the door frame.
“I don’t think so, I should really stay here and watch over the little ones.” I say too nervous they will see through my lie.
“You sure?” The older boy says
I look up and see Ryden staring at me intensely. “Please go Rubee, we’re all okay here, besides, you said you wouldn’t be sad anymore, and this will make you happy.” He states. I see him looking straight at me in a very serious manor.
I meet his gaze and think about it a moment, sometimes I really love these kids.
“Yea, I did say that, alright I’ll go, but you better be a good boy and help out the babysitters okay?”
“Yes ma’am.” He nods.
“Good job kiddo,” I mess up his hair, “I’ll be back tomorrow morning okay. Good.”
The weird thing is I’m leaving, but the butterflies aren’t. It’s gonna be a long night.
~Leo’s POV~
Because Piper and her cabin had to pull the whole party together they had to get there early. That meant we had to get here early. So for an hour I sat at an empty table dressed as a pilot at the outskirts of the humungous dance floor in front of the campfire. Every so often something would break and I would have to fix it while assuring another insecure teenaged girl worrying about how her hair will get messed up if this happens one more time. So in other words, I sat through each Aphrodite girl wishing she were Rubee. After another hour of this the sky got darker and people started trickling in. The dance floor was actually a few hundred tiny monitors displaying different areas of the party. At the front center of the area was a stage with multiple people from the Apollo cabin switching out periodically. They were singing everything from pop to country to alternative.
After a few minutes I decide it would be okay to look for Rubee. I mentioned being here a few days ago when we hung out. I’m just hoping she came. The closer I get to the stage the more I feel the bass thumping and the strobes get brighter. Everyone is squashed together and it’s getting warm despite the temperature being in the low forties, due to an enchantment on the camp it can’t reach below thirty, but it sure can get cold. I walk up to Piper who is staring frantically at a clip board.
“Hey Pipes what’s up?” I say.
“Sorry Leo I don’t know where she is, and I’m a little busy right now.
“What?” I say confused.
“Rubee, I know you’re looking for her but the best advice I can tell you is she’s not gonna be around when the pop starts.” With that Piper turns around and mutters something along the lines of ‘oblivious boys’. I turn and see the crowd in front of me. There has to be at least a hundred people. I’m about to lose hope in this method when I see a pale face and a red head at the back of the crowd. I start walking to the back of the room towards the only hope I have right now.
