(A brief A/N I have edited a portion of chapter 6. Unless you’ve started this REALLY recently I suggest you go back and reread at least the last page or two, it will make this chapter much more effective in carrying the right message. Read on)

~Rubee's POV~

“Rubee, it’s been an hour. You need to tell us Rachel’s prophecy.” Nico lightly shakes me while holding both my shoulders. I just keep sitting in the same over-sized, suspiciously horse-ish smelling chair in the Big House. Yes, I have been sitting in the same place completely silent for an hour, it’s a miracle I haven’t exploded yet. I may be slightly different from other half-bloods where I don’t have dyslexia, the ADHD however did not fail to show up. I take a shaky breath before standing up and I feel all creaky, seriously how does Chiron sit in that wheel chair for so long?

“I- she said-“ Every time I start I feel like I can’t do it. If I understood one thing about that prophecy its exactly who is coming with me. I take a deep breath and recite what Rachel had told me. “At cross roads must both sides meet,

A deal from death, fire must complete

Revenge’s intentions will always be skewed

But with vengeance brings rise to one last feud

A split second choice must decide

Exactly where balance shall reside”

For moments everyone is still except me, it isn’t until Mr. D speaks in a sloppily manner that the silence is broken.

“Welp, looks like skeleton boy and the walking fire hazard are gonna need get some tissues and put up with all their little issues.” Mr. D stumbles across the room, obviously drunk off his rocker. For some reason the gods thought that in celebration of this tenth century of ‘grounding’ it would be a good idea to let him actually have alcohol in his system. Why? Don’t ask me, but it was funny as all hades to watch.

Leo steps up in all seriousness and looks pathetically at Mr. D who had begun blowing spit bubbles and jumping when they popped. Disgusting.

“As much as I hate to say this, Mr. D is right Nico. We both know that we’re not each other’s favorite people-“

“And the understatement of the year award goes to, drum roll please, the walking oven.” Nico interrupts in the moody voice that only Nico can use without retribution.

“As I was saying, it’s obvious that ‘death and fire’ are the two of us. Unless Rubee, you happen to be close with another son of Hades, and Hephaestus?”

“Didn’t you know, I happen to be friends with the entire camp,” I say sarcastically, “In fact, the romans are close buddies of mine too.”

If it weren’t for the stress in the room I probably wouldn’t have gotten away with that sentence, if the person that said it wasn’t me, they probably would have stopped themselves. But that’s the difference. I was the one who said it, and I don’t regret it.

Nico rolls his eyes at the comment, but Leo almost looks hurt. Does a tiny part of me feel bad about hurting him? Of course, but I can’t let it bother me, I was made to hurt people. Even if I don’t want to. That’s why I can’t let Leo get any closer to me, that’s why Nico will always be my only friend. I’d just hurt them.

Secretly though, the part of the prophecy that scares me is the part about the boys, I need to know what this deal is that Leo has to complete. I know Nico, and whatever this deal happens to be, it will not be pretty on the receiving side.

“Okay, lets start by decoding this thing, then we’ll know where to begin.” Leo replies.

“Well the prophecy says ‘at cross roads must both sides meet’ so I think the first thing is where the hades that is and who this estranged other side is” Nico answers.

“Rubee, is there anywhere significant that you know of that may be connected to this cross road in the prophecy?” Chiron asks.

“Uhm,” I think back through the last few days and try and find anything of significance, “When I found the note from my mother, it was at the entrance of the labyrinth, I kept staring at it as if there were something it was asking of me, like it was begging me to enter it, that’s when I found the missing gem in the ornate frame which held the note.” I state.

“Okay and the significance to the whole cross roads?” Nico asks impatiently while shaking the intoxicated Mr. D off his leg.

“When I was studying it I sat at the base of a tree behind where two branches of the forests paths met. I’m guessing that’s where we have to start.”

“Makes sense, but what or who is the other side we’re meeting?” Leo asks slightly concerned and slightly curious.

It’s Chiron who supplies the answer. “I don’t think you are meant to know that quite yet, the oracle works in strange ways, for now the best you can do is prepare your selves for anything. You should pack now, with the possibility of heading into the labyrinth you will need many supplies.”

Solemnly we all nod, we silently walk to our respective cabins and prepare to head out tomorrow, not knowing what we’re preparing for. It seemed to have started raining, hard since we had arrived at the Big House. How appropriate, perfect weather to match my current mood.

I notice Leo try to keep in stride with me, possibly trying to comfort me but I brush him off and walk faster, I look back briefly and see the hurt in Leo’s eyes and Nico say something to him I don’t make out before turning away and entering my cabin.

Seeing Leo like that destroys me inside but I know that this will be one of my first choices to make as the keeper of balance.

I take one step in the door, before I hear a knock.

I turn around not understanding why someone would knock after I’m in the cabin when I was just out there.

I slowly turn the cold door knob and the hinges squeak. I see a panting Leo.

“Leo, what in Hades are yo-“

“Sh, look at the time.” He states.

I look at my MP3 players home screen and see 11:59 in white digits.

“So what, Leo I really-“ At the same time the last little white number flips to a zero I’m interrupted by Leo’s lips on mine. I gasp but not because it was bad but because it was quick and spontaneous, and within seconds he was gone. And I hadn’t wanted it to end. I looked down to where he was standing and a soggy piece of paper lies on the ground in front of me.

I silently read it.

You said you write when you’re bored. This will save everything written on it and never be destroyed.

This is the one time a guy can spontaneously kiss the most beautiful girl he’s ever seen, and make her know she’s perfect.

~ L

I don’t even close the door when I sit on the flooded ground outside the cabin walls. I lean back and I know this will only make things harder, but for the moment, I don’t care.

I. Don’t. Care.

An A/N: Woah, I actually updated? YES!!!! And it’s not even that short!!!!! So tell me what you think, this was a big chapter.
