"What a small world.. I'm actually on a play date with her right now." I told him, collecting my tray with the food on it. Surprise covered his face as he then took his food.

"Wow, small world for real." He hummed and it fell quiet. I honestly wasn't expecting him to be in connection with Denise of some sort. It kind of surprised me that he was the father of their baby.

"Not to be nosey, but how..?" I trailed off and he threw his head back, having a hearty laugh.

"I get that all the time." He stated. "It was a one night stand and somehow she found me and told me the baby was mine. I didn't believe it at first, but when we got the DNA test back, I did."

I just nodded in response. "So, how'd you get pregnant?" He asked.

"Uh, well I was at my boyfriend's house for dinner. His mom was being a complete racist and she got into an argument with his father. She spilled the beans that she's been cheating on him. He told me he loved me, we had sex in his car and bam."

"Why'd you break up?"

"His mom won custody and since she's paying for his college fee, she forced him to break up with me. We tried secretly dating, but it became too much." I briefly explained. "But, I think I'm over him."

"You're not." He told me. "You'll always have a connection to your first love or at least to your child's parent, believe me."

"You love Denise?" I asked, kicking the sand now.

"Yeah, I do. But, I'm just so scared to tell her. I don't want her to love me just because I love her." He sighed. "I mean we've been going on dates, but every time I ask her to be my girlfriend she rejects me."

"Maybe it's because she's afraid you'll leave her or something." I concluded. "But, guess what? Her sister is dating Zeus' father. I don't like them together, I just feel like something is off about her."

"Samantha?" I nodded. "Yeah, she's a bit weird."

Conversation died down and we just watched the people on the beach as we walked back to Heather and Denise. When I arrived Denise looked nervous, she pretended not to see Ian.

"Professor Moss?" Heather looked at him in a quizzical way. "Aren't you supposed to be at the college?" She asked, taking a sip of her drink.

"I'm done for the day." He laughed. "Came to get my daughter and see Denise." Heather gasped, which made him laugh again.

"Ian, I thought I told you to come at six."

"I wanted to see her, I haven't seen her since Wednesday. I missed you too."

She looked at us and stood up. She had then grabbed Ian's hand and dragged him to a safe spot. Heather and I looked at each other and whistled. I lifted Zeus up and sat him beside Cyril, who was in the shade.

"I applied sunscreen on them, don't worry."

"Oh, thanks." I said, taking a bite of my burger.

I heard my phone beep, indicating that I had received a text message. I pulled my phone out of my bag and looked at the messages.
