Nakatunganga ako sa lamesa habang iniisip ang dapat isipin tungkol sa assignment ko na hindi ko nagawa kagabi. Gusto ko mang gawin, wala naman akong oras.
If only I am an ordinary student.
Humikab ako at isinandal ang noo sa lamesa upang suportahan ito sa pagtulog. I had only an hour of sleep, how is it suppose to give me a reason to be all-out-energetic for today? And since when am I energetic? Talking about energy which currently I dont have.
"No sleeping in the library Miss."
I remained on my position despite of hearing someone. Kilala ko kung sino ang nagmamay-ari ng boses na iyon, hindi ko naman siya dapat katakutan.
"Im just closing my eyes, Im not sleeping." I said almost in a whisper.
"Kung hindi ako dumating, I know your planning to do so." umupo ako ng tuwid at inirapan si Ace.
He is a friend, well I guess? He often hang around with me a lot, and I seem to be used to his pressence. So yeah, were friends.
Huminga ako ng malalim at ipinagpatuloy ang ginagawang assignment. I need to finish this before 1 in the afternoon and its currently 12 noon. Im glad to say that I wasnt able to take my lunch due to this student-business I have.
"I havent seen you at the cafeteria."
"I didnt went to the cafeteria today."
Napahinto siya sa paghahanap ng pahina sa libro sa sinabi ko. Maybe he will do his homework too, but I guess he is almost finished, unlike me who answerred 43 items out of a hundred.
"So hindi ka kumain ng lunch?" I shrugged and then eyed him.
Kilala ko siya, when I skip breakfast, lunch or even dinner he would offer to buy food for me.
"Wait, bibili ako." tatayo na sana siya nung sinamaan ko siya ng tingin.
"Here we go again" I said in annoyance. "You keep on buying foods for me, but not even once you got the proper food I want." I pointed out.
Napakamot siya sa batok niya at nginitian ako ng parang nahihiya.
"Sorry, you haven't told me something you want to eat. So I just predicte--"
"Cant you see? I never told you cause I dont want you to buy it for me." Napayuko siya sa sinabi ko.
Its maybe harsh but its better this way. This is not his first rejection, so he better be used to it.
"Ace, I accept your company, its nice to have a companion but that doesnt mean you'll waste something for me. Like your money or even your effort, your time too. Im not worth of it."
Hindi ko na hinintay pang makasagot siya at iniligpit ko na ang mga gamit ko. Skipping lunch is really a bad idea. I really need to take something for my stomache, a proper food.
Nakarating ako sa cafeteria and I immediately went to the counter, agad nagningning ang aking mga mata -if thats even possible- when I saw a slice of cheesecake. My favorite!
"Ill buy that./Give me that." napalingon ako sa nakasabay ko sa pagsasalita.
When I saw who it was, it feels like everything around me muted. Ni pati paghinga ay tila naging mahirap sa lahat. Ako naman ay saglit na nanigas sa kinatatayuan.
Standing beside me is Zacharius Freniere with his intimidating aura and an absolute power around him. I feel so little, not in terms of height but in terms of status. I have never felt this in my entire life here in Montello. And I dont know if I will feel honored or pleasured to be standing an inch away from him, or just let the ground swallow me because of intimidation.
Natapos ang pagtitig ko sa kaniya nung bigla kong naramdaman ang reklamo ng tiyan ko. Napayuko ako saglit, takte naman, kung kailan gutom na gutom ako mukhang hindi ko pa matitikman ang cheesecake ko. Bigla kong naramdaman ang titig niya, naconscious ako kaya hindi ko magawang salubongin ang mga titig niya.
This is so not the right time to be intimidated.
Bigla kong naramdaman ang malalim niyang hininga hanggang sa unti-unti siyang naglakad palayo. Nabigla ako sa ginawa niya kaya tinitigan ko kung saan siya pupunta, I stared at him until he walked out of the cafeteria. I blinked thrice as the realization hit me.
Did he just left? Does this mean that the cheesecake is mine?
Wala akong sinayang na oras at binili ang cheesecake.
Habang naglalakad papunta sa bakanteng lamesa ay nakatitig lahat sa akin, tinitigan ko sila pabalik until my left eyebrow raised.
Whats with the stare people?
"Dont you know that staring is rude?" I asked.
Dahil sa sinabi ko ay nagmistula silang nagsigisingan mula sa isang hindi kapani-paniwalang panaginip at nagsibalikan sa ginagawa nila kanina.
And there, I enjoyed my moment with my cheesecake. Thank you Zacharius.
