ACT IV

GIVING up my youthful days for a dying wish? Couldn’t it be anything fair?

“Let me think about it, Abuela.” I managed to coax a small faint smile—my famous smile when I am irritated.

“You won’t regret it, mon amour. Gilbert is handsome and well, a nice man. If I am young as you I would have married him myself,” she laughed and I had no choice but to laugh along her.

Yeah, I know I am a hypocrite but can you blame me? Even in front of my family I cannot ford to show the real me. It would only be a shame on their part.

This is why I hated being an heiress. This is shy I loathed being Marcus Shelton’s only daughter. If only my elder brother, Simeone hadn’t die. If only…

WHEN David met me at the drive way he knows from the click clack sound my heels were making that I am in an even worst mood compared that morning.

“Hindi ka man lang ba muna mag-tatanghalian?” Nanay asked from behind me.

“No need, Nanay. See you,” I absently ignored her hug.

David didn’t even uttered a word when I told him the address Jackson had texted me.

I breathed three times. I still did not know what to say but I pressed the doorbell anyway. I awkwardly stand there, waiting. A minute had passed but no one’s answering the door. I pressed the doorbell once more and waited. That process continued for fifteen minutes… to my annoyance!

I inhaled harshly and pressed the button harder once more, for the 12th time. I heard a click from the other side of the door this time. Thank goodness!

“Geez, Lady what’s your problem?” I studied the man standing before me. His facial features where different from the photos. How do I say this, more handsome or more alluring?

I blushed when my gaze drifted down his lean muscular body. Good riddance, the guy isn’t wearing anything—Well, he’s wearing something… a little piece of boxer short. Only a boxer short? At this hour of the day? What the hell is he doing before I arrived?

“Hello? Earth to you, Lady!” he gave me an exasperated look. Darn, I was caught checking him out.

I held my chin higher wishing my blush wouldn’t be noticed. “Is that the proper way to greet your fiancée?” Before I can even stop myself from doing so, I allowed my cold hands to caress his nose to his cheeks down to his luscious pink lips.

“Wait—“he grabbed my trailing hand. A surprise expression crossed his eyes and lingered there for a moment before amusement take over. “—you’re lady Shelton? Sydney Shelton?” a mocking grin escaped his lips.

“Oh, how many fiancée do you have?” I retorted sarcastically.

“I only had one sarcastic soon-to-be-wife and she’s standing here right at my door step. Care to share me?” I pulled my hand out of his grasped. Arrogant beast!

“I do not share my belongings to others…” I smirked. Yeah, I’m a selfish brat.

“Hmmm… that would be tough. Care to come inside, my sweet?”

I waved my hand to say no. “I am just here to say that I do not intend to be married, yet!” I plan on leaving after saying that but before I can even take a step he grabbed my elbow and crushed his lips to mine.

For a moment I do not know what to do. The incident at the café suddenly flashed on my mind. That had awakened me from trance. I struggled out of his hold with no such luck. He didn’t let go instead he deepens the kiss and I felt my knees going week. I had to cling on his shoulder for support. I would melt in front of him if I didn’t do so.

His lips continue to tease mine, his silly tongue asking for entrance inside my mouth. He caresses my back, tracing the spine, making me moan. He took advantage and his tongue slips inside meeting mine. That made every part of my body tingle. It’s like wildfire across the desert… like a mountain rocking along the wind.

I snapped awake from the magic when I heard the sound of the doorbell he accidently leaned on. We broke apart. Embarrassment crept from my foot up to my cheeks, making me blush.

“Not bad…” he uttered with a teasing smile across his face.

                Geez… how arrogant!

I raised an eyebrow and left him at his doorstep without saying a word. I didn’t even have a good line to say anyway. So, better leave with my little pride than losing my composure even further.

That was the second time I had been kissed this day by two strangers.

I sighed the moment I was seated inside the Ford. David whistled that made me blush once again. “Did you see that?” another witness to my humiliation.

He met my gaze at the rearview mirror, “Po?”

“N-nakita mo ba yung sa—yung nangyari sa… do-doon sa tapat?” I stuttered in tagalog. He gave me a knowing grin. “Wala po akong nakita. Sa kabilang bahay po ako nakatingin.” I didn’t respond to his acted innocence. Lost in thoughts, I turned my gaze outside the car window.
