"Family only." the lady stated.

I sat down in on of the chairs in the waiting area and anxiously fiddled with my thumbs. He'll be okay, I told myself.

Two men rushed in. One was was a tall handsome man with jet black hair and the other was a slightly shorter, older man older with a greying beard. They rushed into the room, practically running into the woman.

"We're here to see Castiel Novak." said the older man.

"Family only." she repeated.

"We are family," said the other man, "I'm his husband, and this is his dad."

My head shot up. Husband? I thought, Cas never mentioned a husband...or wore a wedding ring.

Minutes later Castiel was conscious and I was let in. "Hey, Cas..." I said softly, walking towards his bed.

"Dean..." he groaned.

"Hey...I'm here."

His eyes opened more, then widened at the sight of his father and husband. "Ben? Dad?"

"I'm here, baby..." he walked over and squeezed Cas's hand, looking down at him lovingly, "I'm never leaving you again."

My hand curled into a fist and my cheeks went red. Husband. Of course he has a husband.

The Next Week

"I didn't know he had a husband, Dean-"

"How do you know that now? " I said, exasperated.

Amara pulled a chair from a nearby table and sat across from me. "Just...I'll fix this, okay?"

"No, Amara-just- do your work." I sighed.

She left without a fight, putting the chair back on her way to her desk. I looked back down at the stack of papers I'd neglected on my desk- ungraded papers, lesson plans, etc- and zoned out as I silently worked on them. I stayed that way all day, not even going to the teachers lounge to eat lunch like I normally do.

Eventually he found me, knocking at my door shortly after the last bell of the day rang.

"Yes?" I called.

He walked in. His coat off, and his shirt now wrinkled from the day, not to mention his messy hair and loosened tie...I was tired too, of course, so this really wasn't the situation I was hoping for.

"Can I talk to you for a minute?" he asked.

"Uh, sure, but I'm about to leave..." I trailed off, my eyes avoiding his.

"Yeah, me too. Just...I didn't see you anywhere today, and Charlie says she hasn't either. Are you doing okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine." I said.

"Fine?" he repeated, "no you're not. You haven't been fine since the hospital. As soon as Ben started talking you didn't say a word."

"Yeah, well, I  didn't want speak over your husband."  I looked down at his hand. He was now wearing a wedding ring.

"...you're mad because I never told you about Ben." Cas sighed. "Dean, I'm sorry-"

"Yeah, I know. Listen, I really have to go." I swung my bag over my shoulder and began to walk away.

Just as I passed him, he lightly grabbed my upper arm. "One more thing..." he said, "Ben wants to meet you. Properly, I mean. He...wants you to come over for dinner on Friday. If you're free, I mean..."  his hand fell, but his eyes stayed on mine, pleadingly.

"Okay. I'll be there." I rushed.

"See you-" I walked out the door. "...then..." Cas finished weakly.
